If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

http://www.news-medical.net/news/2010120...ood-donors.aspx6. December 2010 06:46 --Possible New HIV-like Retrovirus in Blood Supply-- In an unprecedented move, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) patients published a half-page ad in The Washington Post today. The ad brings attention to new, HIV-like retroviruses, including XMRV, which have been linked to CFS and aggressive prostate cancer, and have been detected in healthy blood donors.(snip...) "The NIAID, the national institute responsible for infectious disease research, has yet to fund XMRV research in ME/CFS or any other disease," explains Annette Whittemore, President of WPI. "WPI has had its last six XMRV-related grant proposals turned down; despite the fact that our researchers have proven XMRV is transmissible and infectious." SOURCE MCWPA ------------------------## Strewth. Shakes head appalled. I *always refuse to have blood transfusions. Autologous or nowt. End of story. Seen friends suffer too many problems from blood transfusions - two died from transfused blood related problems. Sigh.

My friend got HIV from a blood transfusion in 1980 during brain surgery. She had a malignant tumor the size of a large orange successfully removed from her brain, made a full recovery, and then began to get sick from ARC which turned into AIDS. She was dead in two years... so sad.

OMG - Erica. What a horrific scenario. I refuse ALL bloods and donor 'parts'. I do so hope that yr friend was able to sue the hospital. The blood wasn't screened that's for sure.
Happened over in France as well during the 80s. There were a number of cases. New laws were introduced, and now, ALL bloods and parts are thrice screened, but me? I still refuse to accept any and all. Just way too scary, and now this new set back! Phew. (Not to mention the CJD cases that still spasmodically crop up).

It's impossible to test for everything, who knows what might be lurking in our blood/body parts supply.

Well, in the USA the blood supply wasn't tested yet in 1980. Something like 85% of all hemophiliacs were infected as well. One of the women I worked with lost all 4 of her brothers to HIV tainted factor. I don't know if it would have helped to sue the hospitals, because the disease was so new and there was lot of confusion about it.

I was told years ago that they wouldn't take my blood because I had IBD. Now with AS added in, I guess it's bad stuff. I don't think they want anyone who takes all the meds we take anyway.
