Although I visit the site daily I rarely post. The main reason is as soon as I have some success, I post and you guessed it, setback!
SummaryLSD early December 2009
NSD late December 2009
No dairy January 2010
No sugar or fruit September 2010. This definitely helped.
Antibiotics (doxy 100mg twice per day). This helped initially.
Diet (starting weight 77/78kg now about 71/72kg and I am 5’11” or 1.80m)
Lots of oils (200ml) per day…if I don’t I lose too much weight…coconut and olive oil.
Spinach, broccoli (raw), salad, greens by the bucket load, alfalfa.
Lots of kangaroo (game meat), free range chicken and lamb once per week.
Daily sardines, tinned wild salmon some tuna.
Lots of coconut flour (75g per day.)
Liberal servings of organic butter…I wish I could get grass fed!
I tried flaxmeal and nuts but I am not sure if I react to them. I will keep experimenting.
A couple of unpasteurised beers per week…I think they may cause a reaction though.
RegimeDaily salt purge. This has helped a lot. I have done it every day for 3 weeks.
http://www.thesuv.org/thesaltpurge.htmlNSD, no dairy, no fruit/sugar. I am wary of the fruit I buy in Australia. It is often starchy as are many vegetables. I hope to introduce lychees and berries over the next few weeks.
High fat and protein diet plus minimal carbohydrates…I seem to struggle a bit with carbs.
SupplementsI am not very good at this as I keep forgetting.
100 ml ofcoconut kefir every day.
5g glutamine, 250mg magnesium, mega B complex, vitamin C 3-5g, 25ml cod liver oil, 5000iu vitamin D most days. I am definitely looking to improve this.
AntibioticsOctober 2010 100mg x 2 Doxy.
January 2011 (since starting the daily salt purge) 100mg in the afternoon. I will look to reduce it when I can. I have noticed no difference at 100mg per day compared to 200mg. I will monitor closely and hopefully move to 50mg MWF as per the roadback.org protocol.
ExperimentsXylitol…a gentler alternative to the salt purge and a pleasant addition to coconut flour. I have heard excellent things about it.
Nuts…I will keep experimenting. I will try macadamias and almonds again this week. I need the carbs.
Milk kefir…for gut healing properties. This week I will risk dairy!!!
Raw organic garlic in the morning.
ResultsMixed!
Two weeks ago I had AS in my shoulder, left hip, right ankle, right abductor! None of it was super painful, just plain awkward and annoying. I was unable to hide my limps! Very annoying to have a limp on both sides of the body
Today I have no SI pain. I can count on my hands the number of days without any SI inflammation. This has dogged me for years. I have inflammation in my thoracic area (3/10) and my right abductor (3/10). Today I am probably as good as I have been in years. Before I started the diet my achilles were so inflamed I was preparing for them to snap and discussing the consequences with my chiropractor! I also couldn't sleep for more than a few hours without back pain.
I feel like I have made progress. The salt purge is the missing link. It has made a massive difference. I believe it cleans the alimentary canal preventing further proliferation of pathogens. It also flushes out the bowel providing a daily colonic. Is this sustainable? I will watch it closely.
The antibiotics support the salt flush. I take them at around 4pm 2 hours away from food. The idea is that the pathogens are taking two blows each day. Well it makes sense to me.
GoalsRemission!
A broader diet after I have experienced some gut healing. A full paleo diet and life style.
CommentsI am super strict and NEVER deviate from the NSD.
If I have any more setbacks I will hit the harder antibiotics.
I regularly see an excellent chiropractor
I basically know that if I ate protein, fat and salad I would have no symptoms eventually. Unfortunately I have always had an excellent metabolism. I have tried this for a day or two but weight loss is absolutely brutal. I need some carbs and here lies the problem, which carbs are safe? Because I believe that the pathogens have formed colonies using the alimentary canal as a freeway, my reactions and inflammation are not always diet related. Throw in physical activity that can cause inflammation and it is very difficult to determine the cause of my aches and pains.
ConclusionIf people want to comment, no worries. Also, all suggestions considered. I am happy to answer any questions.
I am not 100% but I feel like I am making progress. In short, I am better off than I was 13 months ago and I feel I am improving. It has been very slow progress! However, incrementally I am moving forward. This of course could change!
Thanks to John (Dragonslayer), roadback and others for giving me fantastic support and information.
Cheers
Keith
