This is my first week on NSD(again, I cheated awhile back, but now I'm desperate) and I was wondering if any of you got headaches and noticed yourself a little irritable?
I am going to get my eyes checked because in the morning they sting and I think my contacts aren't the right prescription and that could be causing the headaches, however it could be withdraw from starches ?
I dodn't know, I'm sure it won't last that long but I just thought I would ask how long you had headaches when you started NSD,or if that even happened to anyone? thanks.-sheri

Diet change has improved my RA. I feel best eating raw veggies and some fruits and avoiding grains, sugars, nightshades, beans and dairy. Sed rate dropped from 65 to 19, but it took over a year.

I dont get headaches while on NSD. However,
I have headaches while doing apple fast
sometimes.
Did you do apple fast before doing the NSD?

dry eyes can be a sign of glucose deficiency
"anyone on a fast or ketogenic diet should carefully monitor eyes and mouth for signs of decreased saliva or tear production. If there is a sign of dry eyes or dry mouth, the fast should be interrupted to eat some glucose/starch."
the other posts in the series are also worth a read.

if avoiding all starches then it could be important to find another source of glucose in order to avoid chronic ketosis/gluconeogenesis and its associated health risks.

[jroc]

That's interesting info jroc - about the glucose deficiency. Will read up on that one.

I've been on the NSD + no lactose/sugar and very little fruit (almost none) for 2 months, and I've definitely noticed the dry mouth "syndrome". I also wear contacts and feel they bother me slightly, h they never did before.

I haven't really had headaches during apple fast or NSD (I make sure to drink lots of water), but with the painlevels decreasing over the past 2 months I have felt some irritability, whether that's from an adjusted diet (I used to be a massive carboholic and sugar-nut!) or just getting sick & impatient with "it all", as in, the neck & back - I'm not sure wink

Thank you Sunnypower, jroc and KlebSlayer. My eyes are dry, that is so weird you mentioned that jroc,. I bought a diabetes test kit awhile back, and I still have some left, maybe I'll check my glucose after this post.
Charlie Chen,The apple fast does help me, and I do get headaches with it too, I try to drink a cup of coffee with it so I won't have to fight the caffeine withdrawls. I feel like my pain has come down a notch since I started NSD last week(in my lower back). I have some medication in my bag as well, but I don't plan to stay on them long term. My real hope is that the NSD will do the trick for me and reduce my pain to a bearable amount.

Thanks again, I appreciate it!

Hello,

I'm in my first week of LSD and I feel run down and a little under the weather. (sigh.) Hopefully this will take some of that pain away.

Good luck!

Hi Susanna,
I have read about gluten withdrawls and since I haven't had any gluten since last week, I thought that it could be the cause of my headaches.
I feel healthier so far on the NSD, probably because some of the inflammation is gone.
Do you have AS, where is your pain located?

One good tip is to stock up on the foods you can eat so you won't be in a pinch and eat something offensive.

Hope you feel better.
Sheri
