Maybe they will help you ease your gut a little bit. Anyway - be verry carrefull and talk about this with a doctor - uncontrolled use of enzymes may trigger by their on allergic effects. Also, there are enzymes that can make you hurt - i've used some time ago wobenzym (rich in bromelain - they state it has a verry good antyinflamatory effect) for a time and it got me in a nice UC flare. and for me where UC comes, AS follows.
We all have different bodies...and different reaction to outside stimulations...

i don't know wich test you've made.
York testes 113 common foods for intolerance. If one intends to do it one needs to have all those foods in ones diet for at least 6 weeks prior to the test.

good luck.
I do not think that this test results will help achieving remission, but probably avoiding some agressive foods will help ease the inflammation.

have a friend with UC, she recommended bromelain to me as it helped her and i was having horrible loose bowels with my gastritis. the bromelain only made me worse. odd how different we all are.

just saw this now, thanks for thinking of me.
i only seem to have edema in response to some drugs, thus so long as i stay away from those drugs, edema doesn't seem to be a problem. thank goodness its just drug induced. its such an insidious little bu99ger though, creeps up on yah, can take some time to figure it out, especially if you don't know what it feels like.

thanks for that too also very helpful!

recent antibody food testing (IgG?) said my intolerances were high for casein and milk, so trying to learn all i can about the whole leaky gut / food allergies-sensitivities / inflammatory response theory. eggs were lower. glad that's all that popped up.

of course the scientist in me also wants to know why i'm allergic to these things? because i consumed them so much all my life? just common allergens?

anyway, interesting discussion; thank you! smile

Sorry to hear you are in an AS flare at the moment. I know you have been struggling with diet a lot and I truely hope your situation improves.

I wish all the time that everyone spoke my language where I live! I have a job to get myself across as I would like to. You have enough misunderstandings speaking the same language - as happens on here all the time! The written word is very open to your own interpretation.

For example... I did not mean to link enzymes with gut flora - I was talking about 2 seperate things which might help (even though I did put them both in the same sentence!) crazy

We can just agree to disagree on some other things. It can get like a tennis match on here otherwise!

As for me...I am up and down at the moment... I basically know where I am with diet: Starch does not agree with me but I have trouble staying off it for long periods of time eek And I have problems with my neck, shoulders, wrists, hands and feet. Nothing serious, but doing "nothing" (I have 3 kids keeping me busy) is making me stiff and sore - and exercising is making me hurt. I need to make a plan of action and stick to it!

Take care, Tink

My family doctor explained that most common food sensitivities are caused by a combination of not-so-efficient digestion, a leaky gut, and properties of the food's protein component

* perfectly efficient stomach digestion would break down all proteins into amino acids before reaching the gut; not-so efficient digestion leaves larger pieces of protein
* the leaky gut allows still-assembled proteins to enter the bloodstream
* two properties of the protein itself influence the strength of the reaction: how easily digestible it is, and how offensive it is to the immune system if it does end up in the bloodstream

Examples:
* Proteins from meat are more likely to be well digested than casein from cow milk (ultra-pasturized cow milk being especially difficult), so meat intolerances are much more rare.
* Traditionally prepared yogurt tends to be better tolerated than straight milk, because the fermenting aids in breaking down the proteins.
* Goat and sheep milk casein have a different structure than cow and tend to be more efficiently digested by humans (though of course cow milk excels at its original purpose, feeding calves) so more people can tolerate them.
* Egg white proteins are also hard to digest for a lot of people, which is why they also make the top list for food intolerances.
* The worst food protein in both respects (hard to digest, and highly inflammatory) is probably wheat protein, aka GLUTEN!

Oh yeah... almost forgot to agree that problematic foods you eat often tend to register higher than rarely eaten ones, because your immune system learns to target those proteins as a frequent invader frown

that all makes sense, thanks. smile

the thing that surprised me the most was no (negative) response (as determined by this antibody food allergen blood test) to wheat or corn. i really thought maybe one or both of those. but they came out fine on this test. still i'm LSD for overall health.
