Yes that means AS is attacking the hips. I remember those days. OMG that pain was horrible hips locking up and that shooting/ stabbing pain. I got both hips replaced in 1999 took care of all those issues.

i third what donette and louise have said.

i saw one, then another manual PT after the first year and a half of my problems, for about 3+ years, til i had to move. finally this year i'm back to finally finding someone who is doing the same things for me again.......absolutely amazing! magical as donette says is not exaggerating it at all. smile

Yes i have chronic groin pain as well. I believe it is caused by AS. I had some xrays done and had my rhumy look at it he said that it was fine except a bit a inflammation. He doesn't think AS is causing it.

I can be perfectly fine 1 day and next morning i can barely walk .. it comes and goes as it pleases, really annoying but ever since i went to radon baths haven't had it happen since last month.

I get groin pain too. Doc said it is referred pain from the hips. I usually wait until my kids are at school then place ice packs in strategic places, if you know what I mean.

As a male, i don't think i want to place icepacks near my groin hah but my PT gave me some excercises which relieves pain temporarily.

Actually mine is not constant pain, it's more like if i get up and walk i get sharp pains in my groin and its only on the left side, never felt it on the right or if i am laying down or not moving i don't hurt..which is probably why my Rhumy thinks its not AS related.

ok, see if this makes sense. for me, if something isn't bothering me, then moving doesn't tend to bother it unless i really overuse something. but if a tendon is already inflamed (like if i have tendonitis somewhere) then like with any tendonitis regardless of the cause, using that tendon (so movement) will bother it. that's been my observation. like normally my hip / leg is good. but last week something stirred it up. then walking irritated it more. so maybe something similar with you? just a thought.

Typically, autoimmune (or inflammatory) arthritis is worse after not moving for a while, so people are woken in the night with pain, and first thing in the morning pain and stiffness are usually at their worst. Moving around gradually eases the pain and stiffness.

This may be why your Rheumy thinks it's not AS related.

Other kinds of irritation/damage, such as osteoarthritis, repetitive stress injury, carpel tunnel etc. are usually worse the more you move the injured part. This can include tendonitis, bursitis etc. I remember when I had severe tendonitis of one elbow - I had to really rest it while it recovered.

One of my relatives had a badly deteriorated hip joint (from excessive wear and tear as a national squash champion). She felt the pain in her groin; it was only on one side; it was worse when she moved/used it; and finally she had a hip replacement and is doing wonderfully.

I have an appointment with the PT, so with any luck I can get some manipulation, though I'm not excatly sure that manual manipulation is legal in Minnesota. The crazy thing is that it is stronger on my right side, which is overall the more involved of the two, but it comes in waves on the left side and more painful. It feels like a knot of muscle between my belly button and "member". Doc checked for a hernia, nothing, he said it was muscle tissues in my lower abs/groin that is strained theoretically from my sac joint/hip inflammation pulling at muscles. One day it's fine, the next I have issues, from hip to inside of leg to above groin to...well you get the point. I try a little heat on the outside of my hips and that helps a bit, still haven't tried the ice, but that's next. Thank you all for your insight!
