Writing this from my gurney in the pre-op area--I am finally having my left eye cataract surgery! Didn't want to jinx it by posting too soon, but now it's a go. I honestly wondered if If ever get this one done. Only bad part is that due to the damage caused by the iritis through the yeats, there is only a 50-50 chance I keep my vision. Being blind in this eye is a real possibility. The way I see it (pun intended), I'm already legally and functionally blind in the eye, so all I can do is regain vision, right?

Brad I hope it went well. I was very surprised how much help the cataract surgery was for me. I did not have the complicated issues that you did but the procedure was very helpful. I hope you have the same luck

Wow, in the pre-op area for real -- that is excellent news Brad! I am glad you didn't jinx your chances - good plan!
Oh gee, I really hope your odds are better than 50/50 but I appreciate your logic that you can only improve matters if this surgery helps.
Excited to read any updates and I am going to anticipate positive news! But be sure to rest and relax first and foremost, we can wait.

I'm a pretty happy boy right now! Surgery took only a few minutes shy of a half-hour, which is remarkable given how difficult doc thought this one would be. The quick completion time was a very good sign; in fact, as he finished, the doc said that the surgery went "unbelievably well" and that none of the potentially serious problems he expected to encounter popped up. Now, 5 hours after the procedure, the anesthesia has fully worn off and the eye doesn't hurt at all, which is a plus.
I won't know about my vision until I see the doctor tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., but I am very optimistic. It is pretty clear that the worst-case scenario of losing all vision in the eye didn't happen, which means whatever I get tomorrow will be an improvement over where I am now. I still really can't believe I actually had the surgery!

I really hope it does improve things for you. Mum had a different problem - macular degeneration along with cataracts. The doc didn't expect her to have much benefit, but it turned out to be definitely enough to have made it worthwhile for her. She was so glad her doc allowed her to have it done. I guess you were in a similar kind of position, so its great your doc would give it a go.
