I drink wine.. mostly red wine... probably more often than I really should. It is hard to keep track of how much I am drinking here in Germany since a wine you order from a pub over here seems to be about a third of a bottle! Massive!

It never gives me any problems but from a gut healing point of view I guess it is better to not have so much.

Everyone is different, as for me, any kind of alcohol, no problem for me. Thank heavens for that, it's a bright spot in the day for me.

I never had problems with drinking any alcohol. At least not in any way connected to the AS..... I know a few who seem to think it help with their pain, but I can't recommend that route. For the last few years though, I have not been able to drink more than one or sometimes two standard drinks because of the effect it has on my medication. But then again, it might be different from person to person as I unlike others had absolutely no effect on the AS from the "no starch diet" either. I only lost weight from that one. smile
My advise is as with all of these things. Try and see what works for you. No one else can give you a definite answer.

The Gluten thing in my opinion is over hyped but the main goal is to stay with american beers, clear tequila distilled from cactuses, and premium liquors instead of cheap stuff will do the body good. Stay away from overloaded sugar imports, liquors, and wines

My husband is following the NSD with great success and still enjoys a beer each night with no problems. I have heard red wine is actually good for inflammation and is sometimes recommended. We tested the beers that hubby drinks with iodine and they were all clear.

My husband has had AS for nearly 14 years and almost unable to walk. Now he is completely pain-free since following a strict No Starch Diet.

Back aches like crazy when I pass out in the alley behind the pub.....LOL

On a serious note, red wine in moderation is actually very good for general health. Cabernets specifically are good for the heart as advised by Dr Chris Barnard the heart pioneer.
