iritis It's back! Argh.

I haven't had to deal with this since 2004 so I was sort of surprised when the first clue started on Sat. My eyes hurt. Sunday no worse but no better and then by last night, yikes, it was undeniable and quickly got worse. Red left eye, pain!, and light sensitivity - the works.

For 10 years I was plagued with attacks and then chronic iritis but have not had an attack for nearing the 8 year mark on Remicade. Why it suddenly decided to strike is a mystery. The biologic has worked like a miracle on my AS and iritis all this time. My AS is still remarkably well controlled, so I asked my ophthalmologist what he thought was up... and he just said, 'well, they are different animals', which is true.

Got in quickly to see this ophtho today, although he is not my regular guy (mine was in surgery). He looked in my eye for all of 2 seconds before reacting that it was "well under way" which gave me the impression that it was not good, although he avoided telling me what grade when I asked. Only need drops every 2 hrs (with night ointment) so can't be too bad. Really hoping I am not back on this merri-go-round for long. crazy2

Just wanted to report this since it has been my experience, even when you think you have it beat,... you can never trust iritis.

Only good thing is that I finally get to use this smilie --> iritis <-- that James created for us! lol

Hi Mig,

What a pain in the butt. I hope it settles quickly. I went from 2004 until 2012 without a flare and I am not on biologics. This time however my eye doc suggested two weeks of oral steroids 5 mg a day, and the drops, and we had it cleared in two weeks. I was really surprised because in the past it takes months to settle and it always goes to the other eye in my case. I sure hope that doesn't happen to you .

Hugs,
Janet

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! Just when you thought the monster was in a deep coma, it sneaks out to remind you that it is merely hibernating.....

Hope it is a short-lived summer for your particular monster.

Thank goodness for steroids, huh?

You guy's crack me up! That was great though that you got to use the emoticon though Mig. Nothing seems normal about this A.S.-EVER! It just floats around or hides and then ba bam, knocks you sideways. You were awesome though going all of those years without it. Did you catch a cold or a virus and maybe lowered your immune system just a tiny bit more? It sure don't take much. I have it so much even on the Remicade that I am now on a maintenance dosage or a steroid and a pressure release drop!

Hi Mig. I hope it clears up quickly with those drops and cream. AS certainly is its own disease but it brings with it its own buffet of other problems.
Get better soon. Nice smiley but not to be used too often I hope!

Mig, I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with Iritis. I hope that this is a one time occurrence and that you have 8 or more years of remission.

Sorry to hear about this Mig. Isn't it weird how these things can just appear out of the blue...
