Knock on wood I have been doing really great, until now...I had a cup of rooibos tea today and a short time later my SI joint became inflamed and I am now in severe pain. Everything I read about this tea sounded like it had wonderful health benefits. I don't understand what is in it I could be reacting to. http://www.sarooibos.co.za/research-summ...is-good-for-you

Maybe it is unrelated?

I'd say wait til you are feeling well again, and try it again?

My flares don't seem to be connected to food; environmental allergies seem to be more of a culprit for me.

i don't think that you've reacted to plain rooibos tea. did you put something else in it? or was it some other food you ate that day? is not a legume anyway !!!

wanna see if you reat to it?
get rooibos that has only rooibos inside - and drink one pure cup, no sugar, no nothing added. see what happends.

Here it says it is a legume. http://www.betternutrition.com/south-africa-rooibos-tea/columns/askthenaturopath/854

I did not put anything in it as I drink my tea plain. The only thing I had prior to drinking it is a plain piece of chicken, same chicken I have every day...

I'm a little hesitant to try it again as I am still in a major flare from it..

That is weird. Have you tried testing with iodine for possible contamination with starch?

I have on rare occasion had weird but mild inflammation from drinking strong black tea. Too many tannins overloading my system it seems. Maybe a Herx / die off reaction?

My husband gave up tea (regular) and coffee 2 years before starch as they caused buzzing in his finger joints.
