Has anyone tried LDA or low dose allergen injections? My doc said it could help my AS or make it worse so it would be a risk. I am at a point where I feel decent so not sure if I want to rock the boat.

My rheumy and I talked quite a bit about allergy shots. To the point that I got tested...tested positive for dust mites and two kinds of molds......

He said they could make me better.....or worse.

The allergist didn't think there would be any effect.

I tend to respect my rheumy a lot; he's been right just about every time something has come up.

Then I started Humira. Its working so well, I've decided not to rock the boat as well.

However, I know at least some of my allergens: casein and possibly other dairy proteins, yeast (S cerevisiae), dust mites, molds.....and so try to avoid them best that I can.

but i also wonder if other allergens just weren't picked up when i got the allergy testing...in other words....rag weed and other pollens....I know i'm allergic to that....back in my 20s when i started having allergies....i've have terrible ENT symptoms in the spring when all the trees were blooming.....and again at the start and through the peak of ragweed.....and every late summer I'd have my worst flares.

but we didn't talk about LDA, just plain ole allergy injections.

if you decide to try it, let me know how it goes.

Hi Sue- I am sure we have allergies we don't even know about, most likely contributing to our overactive immune response. LDA is not FDA approved. My Immunologist is just starting to research the therapy. He said I came to mind when he went to a seminar to learn about LDA. It can correct allergies to chemicals, food, environment, certain bacteria, etc... My Immunologist told me I most likely have Klebsiella in my gut and the LDA would help this. He said antibiotics is not the way to go to treat the Klebsiella because I have a yeast allergy. I will definitely let you know if I do decide to give this a go in the future. If it helps me, it could help you too smile. Glad you are still doing well on Humira.

thanks, sounds new(ish)? i'll ask my rheumy what he knows about it.

since you mentioned a yeast allergy, are you referring to S. cerevisiae (that found in beer and bread)? if so, look up S. cerevisiae allergy; high percentage of people with crohn's are allergic / sensitive to it. Lots of overlap of all the spondys.
