Unfortunately I cannot purchase Align here in Argentina... but may have to have my mother bring it down in January.

This looks interesting as I have been studying probiotics more.

OK on the probiotic; I can go back to adding in the Align.

But what about that lactoferrin, what gave you the idea to even try it; I'd never even heard of it before.

Thanks for the information.

A very well studied and educated friend of mine recommended it. I had tried everything else I thought why the hell not.

Lactoferrin has two key effects:
1. It modulates the way that iron binds to many pathogenic bacteria, which is a major food source. (Ie: causes the bad bacteria starve)
2. It breaks the bio-films up so your immune system can kill the pathogenic bacteria.

3. The Infantis augments the above points because it gobbles up resources that the pathogenic bacteria might otherwise try to use.

This is entirely my theory, as best as I can piece it together.... I could be totally wrong. Nobody knows for sure.

All I know is it works for me.

I accidentally forgot to pack my LF + Align on a recent trip, and I was out for 2 days, and the symptoms began to return... I got home and took my trusty LF+BI and the next day the 'mild ache' in my lower back was gone. So certainly its no cure, but at least its a crutch for now until we have the means to cure it entirely.

Has anyone else tried it. I am interested to learn if this is just me or if its effective for anyone else?

Was this really called for another Mike. You were just rude. If you don't want to hear what she has to say then just go read something else. She is not claiming this will work for all just sharing her own experience. 5 posts or 5000 isn't that what this site is all about. I am glad to hear it. I am going to give it a try.

I get tired of reading all the attacks. This is a great site with wonderful info but I am afraid to even comment because of rude people. Shame on you.

Chris Kresser had a podcast regarding SIBO and biofilms. There's plenty of good info but this part applies to lactoferrin.

" And there are a number of different nutrients that disrupt biofilm formation. One is lactoferrin, apolactoferrin. I think we’ve talked about that in the context of iron chelation in the past. Life Extension Foundation has a lactoferrin supplement. "

Natren is another option for B. Infantis.

This article has really good info on B. infantis.

Just don't do what I did and go crazy on the resistant starch/pre/probiotics/sbo's as I didn't know what I had. Those will potentially feed many various infections(SIBO, Candida, biofilm etc) and potentially exacerbate the issue/s. I'm under the impression that most AS'ers have AT LEAST one of those three problems.

I agree Little Katy. Rupy comes here with nothing but good intentions and tells us about a simple 20$ probiotic that helps him. How is it possible to hate on someone for doing that? Very unreasonable! Hopefully, future potential posters won't be deterred by comments like those.

Rupy thanks for sharing. I find this all very interesting as I know for me I can definitely tell the gut connection. I tested positive for SIBO and waiting to begin treatment. I also have a big candida problem after a yr of antibiotics for lme.

Recently I began taking just plain acidophilus along with a product called candex that supposedly breaks down biofilms in the gut and saw a huge decrease in my SI pain...totally gone.

I am familiar with align but not lactoferin. I will have to look into it.

Anothermike I get where your coming from. So many claims out there and if your like me with a history of lyme you have tried quite a few of them and spent a small fortune. Its understandable to be hesitant and yes people do post on forums for the sole purpose of promoting their product but sometimes its just to share with others what has worked for them. I try to just research the ones I am interested in and ignore the rest.

Interesting that some folk seem to be getting a good response and other information warns against it (see Lulu's article). The scepticism I have is mostly about the length of remission - I just don't think 6 months is long enough to judge, because I know that in the past I have had many periods where I have been without significant symptoms for at least 6 months - especially when I was younger. Right now I'm in the position of wondering whether LDN is doing anything significant - I started it about 3 months ago, and while the first couple of months showed great relief of pain and other symptoms, I'm still taking the same amount of LDN and feel like I am heading into a relapse. So it makes me wonder whether the LDN was really working (or working well enough) or not. It could just have been the the lifestyle change that happened at the time I started LDN produced a lot of good benefits (eg stopping codeine completely, eating healthy, and exercising more) and the LDN is a minor player. I fully accept that any new regime can produce benefits, but whether they last and whether there is a real cause and effect relationship between the treatment and the perceived disease control is far more difficult to judge. I guess thats what extended clinical trials are all about- something that is missing in any "alternative" treatment field.
