Tammy, you made my day:) All I can add is: ditto!

For much the same reason, we shut down the private, dirty joke forum last month. I hated to see it go but there's a plenty of other places to go for that sort of thing.

I hope Rick was just having a bad day and will reconsider after a short breather...He has been a friend to all of us since day one...it would be a shame to lose him. HEAR THAT RICK?????

Hi Nicole,

Following a previous suggestion similar to your own from Krystyn there has been careful exploration of the concept of a written page of posting rules on the moderators forum. In the end it looks like it just won't work, because there's no getting around the simple fact that no document could ever cover every possible eventuality. It would have to be forever updated, and the poster who caused such an update would still be offended because their case wouldn't have been covered in the previous incarnation of the document, and they would justifiably feel hard done to.

It's an area of extreme sensitivity in both directions and yes, we're looking at it yet again, and some changes might be made. Common sense is the most useful tool, but currently (and as I said this may change) the philosophy is to see what is written through the eyes of the most easily offendable member in an effort to keep them here enjoying the support that is offered. On the other side of the coin, of course, are those that find censorship just as offensive as the most sensitive people are offended by swearing.

The most easily offended people can't change the way they feel, but those that have a problem with being censored can so easily avoid being censored in the first place by taking extra care not to offend.

Richard, you are usually there to post a welcome to each and every new member and have been supportive of so many people. We need you...please reconsider.

Hey Cody,

Do you really mean that your new site is truly NON Censored posting? That means anyone can say anything they want in response to all posts and that will be allowed?

You see, my friend, this is something I left unsaid when I posted that I didn't want any of my AS pictures to appear on your website. What would you do if I had let you display my pictures and someone who also believes in Non Censorship, makes a post about my pictures such as: "this bent over creep should go get a job in the circus, he would look great in a cage between the dog-faced boy and the bearded lady".

Please tell me how I would benefit or be protected from NON Censored posting on your site.

George

Tammy......you ROCK....you summed it up for me....and I'll bet your body is built for some AS lovin'.....ok, I'll censor myself now....but hey, I can hang with Blue Bloods and still crank Lynyrd Skynyrd (did I spell that right?)

I hear ya....I censor MYSELF here because I KNOW that sometimes I could go OFF and offend someone where what I really had in mind was just relaying info or agreeing/disagreeing with someone....in fact I did offer an opinion that was challenged by someone and I gave a lengthy reply, some time ago, and I felt that it was a good exchange of opinions...

I could choose to be "foul-mouthed" or not, to get my point across, and having worked in a position dealing with the general public....hey, you never know what will p*** sombody off....there I go again, censoring myself...but, you never know.

I understand how censoring the word BALLS.....there, I said it, could freak out Richard who has been here forever and never posted a joke....but then he may have been having a really really crappy day...and then saw that his one joke was edited...and that put him over the edge...because hey, you never know....

I have found KickAS to be such a DYNAMIC place that I kept coming back for years before finally registering as a 'regular'....I'm so glad I did....so many people, so many ideas, just great....

And the idea behind creating forums for certain things is to keep the main forum as open as possible, so that anyone with AS feels ok to post there.....that's a good thing...

wow, I thought I was going to just type a couple sentences....

Come Back......Shane......Come Back.......

Peace
Linc.

Hey Rick

Tammy said it well.

I also have a gutter mouth, and a lot of times wonder if I should post something or not. What I have found that works quite well is this. I have a bunch of peoples personal e-mail addys and if I think that the joke will cross the line on the forum, then I send it to the ones that I know will appreciate it via e-mail. Works like a charm, and the folks that I want to read it, get a chance to.

I understand the word balls is not a bad word, but sometimes it is the context that the word is used in that makes the meaning different.

You have been here for so long, and helped so many people. Think of all the people that now will not have your experience and knowledge to help guide them along. When people first come here, most are scared out of their minds by this disease and you help comfort them. That is very important.

Please dont leave because of one mis-understanding. We all care about you, and each other. That is why we have the moderators and admins. Something that may not be offensive to me, could really be offensive to others. It takes all kinds to make the world, and we really need you in our little (but growing rapidly) world right here. Pleassssseeeeee?????

Hugs
Lori

George, in your way of thinking we must limit people because of what they might say. I don't think what you said would happen but if it did then the person saying it would just be making a fool of themselves and others would know them for what they are, a jerk. I have never been a believer in having someone or a government in the "protect us from ourselves" when it comes to speech. My site is Non Censored and those that might not want to read an insulting remark are warned that it is a place of free speech. I am not condoning vulgar language and would not allow X rated photos because I am protecting speech not images. My NON Censored speech is about peoples thoughts and ideas about Ankylosing Spondylitis and sometimes this leads to other issues that are also welcomed to be explored. The people that have joined are good people and I don't think you would find a word or picture on the site that would offend your tastes in the three weeks that we have been on the WEB. There are alot of books in American librarys that certain groups and people would like to have banned but they stay on the shelves because of the freedom of speech that we are priviliged to have. This is Memorial Day weekend in America, it is a time when we honor those who fought and died for freedom for our nation and other nations as well. Twice we went and fought in Europe to defend freedom and in many other places around the world. There is alot of America bashing going on in the world but that is another issue for another time. What may be vulgar to one person may not to another.. The word BALLS-- THIS is a true story -Back in the 1960's there were on American television two former baseball players that became sports announcers. Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese were announcing the Saturday game that day on CBS Television. Please note that Balls and Strikes are a term used in the game. During the game the cameraman spoted a couple in the stand kissing over and over again. The announcers were laughing about it. Dizzy Dean said, before even thinking about what he was going to say---"he kisses her on strikes and she kisses him on balls"----there was dead silence---this was the 1960's--- such a blunder---I heard this story on television a few years ago and it shows you how times have change that they could now say it on TV nowadays without the same fallout. Balls, just another word but I guess its how each feels about it's use.

I am not sure what all went on because I have been gone a few days because of health prombles. But I have just one thing to say. When we do things for people here it is because we want to. If we get mad at them or have a diagreement with them we should not put back in there faces what all we have done for them. That is not what helping people is all about. I have had that done to me not to long ago and if that is what is giving help to people who needs it I do not want it any more.

We are a great group here from all over the world. What maybe funny some where else it may don't be funny here. We need to remember that and try to keep every ones feels in thought. So Richard please stay we need more old times like you. There are too many leave. We have to figure out a way to make them stop. Or who is going to help the new comers.
