When I first entered the study, I was instructed to dispose of only the needle portion of the syringe in the sharps canister. I put the cap back on the needle before I untwist it. The rest goes into the regular trash. I've been on Enbrel for 10 months, and at this rate, my sharps container will last several years.

Hugs,

Cindy

HI Cindy,
The Enbrel package contains the syringe with the needle. I believe the needle can not be separated from the syringe. I have to look at the container to see if there is a place to break off the needle. If that's the case yes, the container will last a long time. I just checked and the instruction says to dispose of the syringe and needle into the container. I have a square box container and one that I had recieved with the initial box from the rhuemy that contained a bottle shape plastic container. Anyway, you will see what I am talking bout when you received Enbrel meds.... I just injected my fourth injection and It went smooth. Good Luck.... (See attachment)

I think the only thing we have in common is the pink cap. I don't have a digital camera or I'd put a pic up. I use one large bottle of water for each month for reconstitution. The syringes are pre-packaged, but they can be taken apart if need be. The needles screw off the end of my syringes. So if I dull or bend the needle, I can replace it. It's 2AM, I've just had my hard drive wiped, and I and my computer are not quite altogether, so if this makes no sense, I'll try to see if I can later make it more confusing.

Hugs,

Cindy

I tried to pull the needle off the syringe but they won't come off. Anyway you take some rest. Seem that you have been up most of the night. It not very good for the body. Thanks for the info. I will keep you posted.

Mine are like Cindy's. Actually to get the needle off, I have used a pair of pliars to twist it. It will than unscrew.

The syringe is empty. I too have a bottle of sterile water. The water will last about 3 months. After drawing up the water, I than inject it into the Enbrel powder. Let it set a few minutes until the foam disappears. Than draw that solution back into the needle to use. After piercing the water bottle and the enbrel bottle, the needle can get dull.

I hope after Sept that I can continue with the study or find a new study. I'm making sure my doc knows. My next visit is 12/2/02. After that I will go two months, and than a three month schedule of study visits.

Finally after almost a year of waiting I am now officially sticking hampster juice into my body!! I learned how to give myself injections Thanksgiving how ironic is that? I finally feel there is some hope after reading all the amazing success stories here. I will post more as I have experience to post.

Take care

Frankie
