Hi Kirst,
Thanks for sharing. I took my first shoot today. Man it was easy. I just hope that the med will do as good as it has for others. I received three months supply. Have you shoot youself in the stomack yet?....I went with the thigh this time, but I will shoot them on my stomack next week. I was using Kineret shot which had a simple injector. I didnt even saw the shot it went inside the injector. Anyway, doing it free hand is not all that bad. thanks again.....may you continue in good health with Enbrel.

I tried the thigh....but all I have is muscle from riding the bike, thus it was not a good site. It was too difficult to grab the skin. I now use the stomach area. It is no problem. I found that throwing the shot like a dart helps a lot.

I hope you do well on the Enbrel. I was on it for 8 months but it didn't do much for me. I was able to stay on Vioxx and the occansional prednisone taper which seem to help. Today my doctor prescribed Decadron.....that's the one that scares me. I'm not sure I'll fill that one. I really wish the Enbrel would have worked. ~Aaron

Betty,
Do you insert the whole needle into your skin?....I couldn't see if all for just half. I went and did what you do....darted in all the way.....but I could use my thighs. I have muscle there too but I can pinch it to insert the needle. I will alternate from the thigh to the stomack. Thanks and May it work forever for you. See ya.

Aaron,
Hi, sorry to hear that Enbrel didn't work. All I have heard even from my rhuemy how great Enbrel is for RA. Which also includes Psoriatic Arthritis. The five types of Psoriatic Arthritis are symmetric, asymmetric, distal interphalangeal predominant, spondylitis and mutilans. So since I have AS(spondylitis) I hope that Enbrel can control my AS. Just like alot of other meds some will work for some of us. I have used a lot of meds and it seems that most are temporily. But what is really doing me harm is that my stomach is taking a beating since my rib cage is fused. Anyway, I just hope Enbrel is what my system can torelate and can help me. I was dignosed with AS, but most of the Radiologist said not to excluse Psoriatic Arthritis. Maybe my rhuemy have misdiagnosed me. Ok....enough of me rummbling on....You take care..

Dan,

Yes, I insert the whole needle. After inserting the needle through the rubber of the water and than the rubber top of the medication, it appears that the needle gets dulled. Sometimes it is so difficult to insert the needle. Have you had this problem?

No luck for me with the Enbrel. The reason I quit was because I kept getting flares, each one worse than the previous, and my Dr. said we could try more treatments if I were not on the Enbrel. Now it seems like my Dr. is going crazy with steroids.....I'm not sure I'm intrested in taking so many steroids, but the alternative is not very appealing either. This last flare was so bad I couldn't even stand-up or take a deep breath. It derailed my quarter at school, I'll have to audit now.......bla, bla, bla........anyway you know how it goes. The upside is I was able to spend some time with my family instead of keeping my nose in the books. ~Aaron

Hi Betty,
No, I just flipped the pink cap off the bottle(enbrel) then I center the needle. I pushed slowly and it went in without any problem. I swirl the solution for about two minutes, which created some foam, then I turn it upside down and filled the syringe. Everything went smoothly. I then inserted the needle in my tight. Didn't even hurt. ..Ok Good luck Betty and keep in touch.

Hey Betty,

My study people have given me extra needles to put on for the injection. They said it's typical for it to become dull after being inserted into two bottles. After I draw up the solution I change the needle portion of the syringe and expel the air and it's good to go.

Happy sticking,

Kirst
