No Rox - it'll still work!

You have the perfect complaint,... just tell 'em that's what's preventing you from *getting* a new bf,... you'd hate to disappoint right?...

Here is a link to an article that will interest you. It is proof that your perception is correct.

It is an excellent article about how women are treated by the medical profession when complaining of pain. It put me in mind of the myth that women do not suffer as much from AS as men. This attitude is not surprising after reading this excellent article. I stumbled across it when doing research for a psychology term paper and referred to it quite a lot. Girls and women out there--this is a must read!!!

Hope you find it interesting. Why not print it off and give it to your doctor if Mig's suggestion doesn't work?

Val.

Hi Everyone,
I really want to thankyou all for responding and your caring comments. I am sorry for not replying to each and every one, but I do appreciate them all.

I know some days it really feels good to vent, and thanks for listening to me do that lol.

and Valerie, thankyou for posting that link again. I had read that before and printed it off for the last doctor I had seen. I decided he wasn't worth my time after what I read in my charts. So found the new doc who introduced himself with the "I don't do pain pills speech" lol

But sometimes good things come from bad situations. I had told my mom about posting this thread, while she was still in the hospital rehab recovering from her hip replacement....(She is home as of today yayyyy MOM!!!) But anyway...she was telling her doctor about the situation and her doctor will see me !!! AND my sister too!!! She feels that if a doctor is allowing their patients to be in pain when they have a condition that is known to cause chronic pain....then that doctor is NOT doing his job. AND she said she would help cut through some of the red tape in getting me in to see a rheumy. So there is hope on the horizon after all LOL

So thankyou again everyone. Going to slide off to bed now lol

((((((((hugs)))))))

"The most successful way to get a male doc's true undivided attention regarding your level of pain,...
is to tell him the pain is sooo great, you've been unable to have sex for 1 year.

In his concern for your husband,.. he'll trip over himself to ensure you get the pain meds PRONTO!!!
Sad but true,... it worked for me! It's just a matter of communicating in a manner they can relate to!"

Yeap you are sadly correct. It worked for me once as well but I really had gotten to the point where any intamacy was just too painful.

A box set of four stoneware dishes fell off a pallet an collapsed my lung. The next morning realizing something was very wrong I went to the hospital. After about two days in the hospital the back pain started and didn't really let up....ever. I was 20 just met my husband and after several weeks of getting the run around (therapy, anti-inflamatories) I finally went off on my doc and when I said I couldn't even make love he changed his tune almost immediately.

Isn't that the dumbest thing you've ever encountered????!!!!!

Val, Thanks so much for that article,... a long read but some very interesting stuff there. I was fooled by some of the myths as well! As far as gender differences when describing pain to doc's,... I guess I'm an example of their research, by providing contextual info... re: too painful for sex.

Sinta,... yes - true story!

Sthrncomfort,... how come it doesn't surprise me to hear it happened to you too?! Yep, it's not something you forget,... 'cause it's just so dumb and frustrating,.... especially since I lost a whole year (before I thought of describing it in those terms) for him to take me seriously. That's a year I'll never get back!
