Hi All

I am new to this site discovered it yesterday. I have had AS for about 20 years but only disgnoised 13 yrs ago. I am 39 and work as a Registered nurse in Accident & Emergency.

I have lots of problems with AS in the amount of flare ups i have, they are usually there all the time with maybe one or two days with no pain. Until a month ago that is when i was prescribed Arcoxia which has enabled me to stop taking the 4 other medications i am on, which is a great relief i was waiting for my guts to explode at any time.

Hope you are all well and that we can provide support to each other.

Hi Leisa

Great to see you posting in the main forum, and great to see another RN here!!

This place has been a godsend to me, it really helped my peace of mind in general, and then I found out about the NSD, of which I do the (very) Low Starch version. That really has given me my life back, so I hope you'll be intrigued to have a look in the NSD forum part of the site.

How does your AS affect you in your work? I work in Acute Medicine, and at one point my Staff Health doc advised me strongly to "get out of clinical nursing" as soon as I could. Finding and having great results from the LSD means I don't have to worry about that anymore, and although it has helped my energy levels no end also, I do find those bummer runs of shifts (8+ in a row) do me in more than they used to. Hmmm, maybe that's just because I'm getting a little older?!!!

Good to see you posting here, and hope you'll stay around

Take care,

Jan

Hi Leisa,

And welcome to Kickas. I hope you find the information and support you need to fight AS.

Stick around - It kind of gets addictive after a while!

Cheers

Hi Leisa,
Cool Name, but I am curious as to how it's pronounced...
Glad that you found us, but never happy to hear of another person that has AS. But since you have it... there is no better place to be than here with us.
Like it was said already...it's addicting. A place where there is so much knowledge, love and support, as you will soon find out...you can't help but become addicted.
It's great that your still able to work. Alot of us have struggled with that issue and some have had to break down and apply for SSD because we could no longer work. Such a difficult thing to accept. I was an Optician for what seemed like a million years, but had to get done about 5 years ago. It was a tough change for me, as it was for many of us. Funny how when we're working we wish we didn't have to and then when we can't, we would give anything to be able to again. Guess it would be different if it was by our own choice.
I am sure your job is very fulfilling as well as tiring. Hope you can continue without AS setting any limitations.
I never heard of the med your taking "arcoxia"...Here I thought I have tried just about everything.
Anyway, welcome to our family and I look forward to seeing more post from you.
Lisa

Hi, leisa!

Having KickAS to come to is a way I cope with the AS. I hope that you will find it helpful.

Love that pic, Jo! It's the cat's hindquarters!

Best regards,

jcwinnie

Hi Leisa,

Welcome to KickAS. I consider this place a Godsend like many others. Very good information and support for AS here... and a little humor. I have become addicted like many of the others and check the site almost daily.

Take care,

Tim
