Sorry to hear that your in a lot of pain. I wish more than anything that I had a magic wand and could make you, along with all the other wonderful people here free of pain.
Today is one of the coldest days here in VT too. 16 degrees today burrrr.
Your question is a real good one.
For so long it seemed like I hurt so much everyday that the weather never really mattered. People kept asking me this question and I decided to start paying more attention.
This may sound weird, but it seems like the hot humid weather bothers me the most.
I remember the day of my son's graduation/going away party...it was a very very hot day and humid too.
I went outside to start getting things set up for the party and I while I was in the sun, I watched as my hands knees and feet blew up like balloons.
The moisture from the humidity must have been setting into my joints and causing them to act up. It happens to a lot of people when it rains or with damp whether, but with me it is worse on hot days like this one was.
Whenever some of my joints act up, especially my feet, I always use cold packs on them instead of heat. When I use heat, it seems the samething happens to me as when I go outside on hot days. It makes it worse, but the cold has always given me some temporary relief.
That's my thoughts on this...

Having had AS for 30 years I can say this:My hip joint pain has always been worse in summer. but my general neck ,spine ,wrists and feet are yearround.

steph, I hurt all thetime gets real bad when the weather changes from sunny to rain back to sunny or snow or change in temps maybe it is just in my head too......oak

Steph, the cold and snow is worse for me I think...my body also tells me whenever we are in for a change in the weather ora bad storm coming...my rheumy even calls me "Doppler Cheryl" Hope you feel better soon...hugs, DC

Funny you should mention that. My hip was my only complaint both this summer, and last years....

Neither. My worst is in transition from warm day to cold or from cold days to warm. Late October to November again from late March to early April.

I actually like both very warm and very cold as long as it stays that way. Hate when it goes fom 55 degrees down to 20 degrees and dampness in the air or vica versa 20 up to 55.

I suppose therefor I'm better with warm cause if its going from 75 to 100 I don't get achey but 50 to 25 might do me in.


Sorry to hear you are hurting. If cold weather is what ails you, it may be time for you to have someone toss you in a box and find yourself mailed to Cheryl's front door. THink FLoida winters are a wee bit nicer temperature wise than Canadian winter.

For the most part, I have always hated hot weather, but I'm beginning to change my mind. Mind you, I hurt all the time, but when the weather gets cool/damp, I ache. I like the warmth of a heating pad; it seems to ease the pain some. And when I have overdone it, cold packs help me with the pain. Maybe I'm just crazy. After all, a lot of us have been told IAIYH.

Any cold makes me freeze up with pain!
I can not go into a cold swimming pool or my muscles go into instant spasm. I made my husband buy a heater and I can not go in if it's under 85ºF. I can not tollerate the hot humid weather where we live so we use air conditiioning which is fine unless I'm sitting in a spot where it's blowing directly on me, like in the car.
Cold weather, I shiver and my muscles "freeze up". Tonight we were shopping. A very cold wind was blowing and just getting from the car to the store I already was feeling the pain worsening. By the time we went from the store back to the car and then into the house my body was screaming in pain. I had to immediately come in and take muscle relaxers and pain pills because I am hunched over in pain. It gets that bad that quickly for me.
So, for me it's definately cold that is worst!
