LPs are done below the point where the spinal cord ends in the spine to lessen the risk of paralysis (Epidural anesthesia is done the same way, below the spinal cord).  Yes there is a risk of the spinal headache, though.  You could ask these questions: What would happen if you DIDN'T have it done?
 What information will it give towards a diagnosis?  (as opposed to some blood tests?)
 What treatment decisions will be made on the information from this test?
 
 THEN you can make an informed consent (or dissent).  If you still have questions, this doctor hasn't done his job, imo.
 
 DX: Psoriatic Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Psoriasis
 Meds:  MTX since Oct 2009, 15mg/week.  Cimzia-restarted after 2 yrs away.
 Epidural Steroid Injections x8;  Lumbar Radiofreq Ablation x2
 SIJ Steroid Injection x3;  Bilateral Radiofreq Ablation SIJ x9
