If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi everyone, I was recently diagnosed with A.S. on June 18,2003. I am 23. I have had pain for 3 1/2 years. Some days are better than others. The pain is the worst in my SI joints, lower back and in between my shoulders. I have tried a few meds but when it hurts it hurts. I still haven't found anything that takes it all away. My newest treatment is VIOXX. I just started it yesterday. My Aunt refered me to this web site...I have learned a lot so far. There is so much to read I don't think I will ever be able to catch up. I wasn't really sure what to write. Hope this was ok. <3 jamie

Welcome. Don't read it all. DOn't overwehlm yourself. Pick and choose the forums you want. The diet information is helpful . Lots of people willoffer opinions and experience about NSAID's and DMARD's. Being as young as you are and having a diagnosis is a great headstart. Get a Doctor you like and trust and if you like it here come often for ideas, shoulder to cry on or grumble to and lots of laughs when you need them. Your introduction was terriific, but I am biased since I have a 20 month old baby named Jamie.     stevec-they also serve who stand and wait

Hi stevec, Thanks for introducing yourself. Congratulations on your baby. Love the name!! I have a 3 year old daughter named Taylor. I know, I am pretty lucky to be diagnosed at such a young age. Hopefully I will be able to get on the right treatment plan, if there is one. I have checked out some of the diet forum. I printed the foods to avoid and foods to ease A.S. lists and have them posted in my kitchen. Maybe some day I will have enough self control to stick by it 100% but for now I am just trying to be more aware of what I am putting in my body. Which one is your baby??? <3 Jamie

WHat foods have you been told to avoid? As for folks here the thing that many swear by is a No Starch Diet. I also don't have sufficient discipline and I love food so I am on a Low Starch Diet with unfortunate outbursts of occasional cheating. As for my Jamie. The girls are my triplet daughters, but Jamie is the young lass furthest right with Big Bird in her hand. Also there is a womens forum here. Private for only the ladies and I suspect it is very active since we have some wonderful ladies here. They will tell you the way in.     stevec-they also serve who stand and wait

I have been told to avoid all white foods which include starches and carbs. refined sugars, anything fried and anything with lots of extra fats. So basicaly everything that tastes good. LOL! I haven't really tested it out yet. What I do know is that if I over eat at all it makes my body very unhappy. Wow triplets???? I thought one was hard to handle. Couldn't imagaine 3. <3 jamie

Hi Jamie,
Welcome to KickAS.
Don't worry about what to write or say when you are here. When we post, we just tell all our new friends how we are doing, what is working for us re pain relief, how we all cope with the AS and maybe ask for some help in how to solve some AS related problems.
And we do try and have some fun now and then.
Glad you joined us and hope you stick around. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask as we do have some people on the site who know a lot about AS and related side-effects.
Take care, George

Hi Goerge, Thanks for the greeting. I am sure I will be sticking around for a while. There is a lot to learn about AS and it's symptoms. I haven't had it for that long so when I see people on here who have had it for years and years I figure they could teach me a thing or two about pain management and/or different treatments that have worked/not worked for them. Talk to you soon :) <3 Jamie

Jamie my dear niece Yeah! I am so happy that you decided to come and join us all Yup, that's right everyone, this old bull is Jamie's aunt, and she deals with it quite well. Snort! As far as we know Jamie and I are the only ones in our family that have AS. I wouldn't wish this disease on anyone and when she first told me she was diagnosed, well, first I was sad but then I realized that Jamie has a wonderful, bubbly spirit and I knew she would fight the battle and be ok. And did you tell everyone about Taylor? She's a cutie! So glad your here honey! peace & love Aunt Kath "The most beautiful stones have been tossed by the wind and washed by the waters and polished to brilliance by life's strongest storms."

Welcome to KICKAS.
What you wrote was fine.
You have definitely come to the right site. There is a great amount of information and support here.
Important things to read are - NSD No Starch Diet - many people have posted great success with the diet - 3 Day Apple diet - cleanising diet - DMARD Medications (Enbrel, Remicade) - Excercise
For a good source of information on AS, try the following -goto http://www.uptodate.com -select Specialities (on the top bar) -select Rhuematology -select Topic Reviews -select Treatment and Prognosis of AS It would be good if you can make it to the site, as there are links to diagrams, pictures, xrays and further Information.
If you have any concerns, post them up on the forums, you will be surprised at the amount of responses you will get.
I hope this helps Good Luck Wayne
