Hi,
I am on a flare-up....I have not had one in about six months. But this one is kind of weird. Started on my left shoulder and neck... now it's deep down my left shoulder BLADE a hot jabbing nagging pain. Especially when I tried to take a breath it take my breath away. But one thing I noticed is that my stomach is bloated also. I have not changed my diet.
So not only I can not take a mild breath with a jabbing pain on my back and neck, but Imy stomach feel like its going blow up when I take the breath. Has anyone had this type of flare-up?...Thanks

Do you have any kind of small blisters on your chest? I had the feeling you are discribing quite a few years ago, then noticed small blisters. It ended up being shingles. Of course I cant say if this is your case but it sounds much like what I went through.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent flare! I havs AS & IBS & when I'm having a bad day my AS affects my stomach as well, I think they're are both interlinked, AS being an immune system disorder, also the NSAIDS won't help your stomach. I have problems with my shoulders & neck etc. In the early days of AS it mainly effected my back & neck, but now I'm more affected with my other joints & tendons. I think it's just a natual progression of the disease.

Chin up! It'll pass, honestly!! Just stick it out & try to stay positive. I know that's practically impossible sometimes, but stress makes AS much worse.

I have IBS and my somach suffers terribly when I am in a flare.
I've been feeling bad for a month or two actually, and my stomach is bloated almost daily. I simply cant stand it. It goes away at night, and is back there the next day....

Just like to mention that currently I too am suffering with my left side over the back of the ribs and shoulder blade also. I understand exactly when you say it takes your breath away to breathe!!!! My left buttock and SI's are also inflamed. Why I dont know. Just 'one of the things' I guess..

Thanks for your info, I do have IBS...last time I talked to my doctor and I gave him my systoms he told me that I had IBS. It must be that my AS flare-up is causing my IBS to act up. I also notice today that I am burbing alot even when I drink water or eat anything. Thanks again your all so kind...

I just wanted to let you know, I am in a flair too. Shoulder blade, back, SIs. I have been for over a month now. When I am in a flair like this my IBS acts up terribly. I think it comes right along with the AS flair. I also take methotrexate and that does a real number on my stomach. The only thing we have to look forward to is it will ease up.
