If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Folks
Does anyone know of a good sleep med that you can use nightly, and that promotes deep, restful sleep? I currently take 150-250 mg Amitryptyline at bed. Problem is lots of side efects, and you can't come on and off at will. You must taper very slowly, or you'll get a host of nasties, bizarre halucinagenic dreams-very unpleasant, cravings for sweets , excess sweating-the list goes on. Orhas a ny had success with a herbal cocktail, again for real Depression and real Arthritis?Or can you direct to a source? Thanks and be well, my AS buddies!

Brian,
Tried a number of anti-D's when it was AIYH, also tried amytrip for pain and I can understand why you do n't find it acceptable, it can do some weird things. apparently if you have underlying addictions it's well known to bring them out, lucky it's only sweets eh?
I take tramadol SLow Release at night, I insisted on it and so far no problems. Seems to last all day, on higher real pain dosage it's a bit weird but nothing like amytrip.
No unusal dreams etc....no GI issues, when I start up on it again I get a bit funny mid afternoon for a day or so, but nothing alarming, Anti-D's were far worse.
As for natural things, I did get some rose hip tea once which knocked me for 6 and no side affects, wish I could find it in Oz.
The sleep is so so so important in coping....
David

Hi David Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, Tramadol(and its aliases) are not available, our side of the commonwealth in Canada.Tell me more about Ami bringing out dependences. or biologically pre-disposed addictions.Do you have a reliable source, reference or studies. Thanks a bunch-PS Hows the weather down there?

Hi,
I'll start searching again, I had a rough time and after doing the research 3 years ago....
The weather is cooling we had a few days 16-18 Celcius it was nice took some stress of the body, but it's warming up, the sun feels liek autumn may be early this year who knows. I've missed the past 2 months nearly in a flare so I'm anxious to get a bit of the ocean...play with the kids...
SO Ultram and ultracet are also not in Canada! Me things that is wrong, it's not an opiate as such....

I was giving Temazepam 15mg. The first night I took it, I was able to sleep all night and I didn't have a side effect in the morning. I do not use it every night, even thou my doctor precripted it. I can not sleep most of the nights, but I do not get depended on sleeping pills. I take one pill once a weeks when I know that I really need some sleep. Good Luck..

Hey Brian,
My doctor recently put me on a drug called Klonopin to help me be able to sleep. My problem is when I lay down my body feels like jolts of electricity zap me a few times. Then throughout the night my legs and other body part tend to jerk as they try to relax. While I still wake up a lot during the night the drug does allow me to get a lot more restful sleep than I have had in years,
Hope this helps Brent

Hi there, I'm taking trazadone and zopliclone. Works very well for both and does not give you that groggy feeling in the morning. ~If there is something you cannot change, then change the way you react to it

Brian,
I also take Amitriptyline, but only 20mg a night just for the sleep thing. I have found that about 1-2hrs after taking them I would get some cramping and pins and needles in the knees. I started taking some Potassium Gluconate 550mg with the Amitriptyline, which seems to help a little with the cramping. Hope you find somthing. Good post, I also would like to find somthing with less side effects.
