I dunno, but it seems that as I get older, it's harder and harder to get all the 'bits' moving in the morning to get out of bed.

When I go to the Rheumy, his first question is "how long does it take you to get moving in the morning?" My reply is always "which part of me are we talking about?" I do know that certain parts of me take longer than others. For example: I walk down the stairs one step at a time, my feet are turned out as my hips just won't work the way they are supposed to. My hands are swollen and red hot, and heaven forbid anyone who tries to hug me and ultimately move my neck before I've got the stupid thing lubricated (no.. not with coffee! talkin' exercise!)

Does anyone have any good "how to get out of bed strategies?" I'd be real interested to hear what others do to get their bodies "moving" in the morning!

Maxine,

Slowly is the answer!

Seriously I lay in bed and do little excercises, stretches before I even attempt to leave the bed. I have alot of trouble with my feet so I slowly move my feet like I'm applying a break and letting off it for a good ten minutes As for the rest of me I try and get out the best I can. Ditto with what Stacie said, the shower does wonders for me. Sometimes if my back and hips hurt extra my wife gets the ice pack out for me.

Scott,

Sometimes the stiff mornings are easier! The ones I hate, are when you bounce out of bed feel great take the recommended shower then feel very very dizzy and have to lie down for an externity. Then everything seesm to come back to life.....

No good tips here I'm afraid.
I just make sure I stretch while still lying in bed, and try to 'pop and crack' whatever I can to feel more comfortable (which maybe isnt a good idea! ).
Next I sort of roll out. Not easy I can tell you, with this ever increasing bump in my tummy!

Take care

I always set my alarm clock 45 min. to an hour before I really need to get up. When it goes off, I begin my morning calistinics. I toss and turn and thrash and generally loosen everything up before I really have to get up. Some mornings I feel loose enough in 15 minutes, some mornings it's 30, and other mornings it takes the whole hour. If it's cold, I often have to go ahead and get up to turn the heat in my bathroom up, but I always have the time to go back to bed and really loosen up before really having to get going.

It takes skills to get up in the mornings...

I roll to the side I want to get out of....slide my legs down the bed (one at a time) while pushing up with my arms to straighten up on the edge of the bed....then I wobble my 104 years old bones to the shower....where I pass the mirror and see my 35 years old face on the mirror......Telling myself I have lots of years to caught up to my body...

3cents worth..

LOL,

I know when I'm better because that face in the mirror looks more akin to my age and not like my bones feel,,,
