Hello to everyone,
My husband has progressed AS and we purchased a Select Comfort Air Bed. That is the best thing in the world to sleep on. We purchased one to try it for 30 days for free just to see if he would like it. Well, it was the first night of sleep my husband had in several years. Need I tell you more.. It was the first night in years that my husband didn't wake me up from wrestling with his pain and joints hurting. He would toss and turn and kick and keep me awake. On the new Select Comfort bed you have your own individual chambers to choose how firm or soft you want to sleep on. I have arthiritis, and I love it. We liked them so much, we purchased three more of them. We even have one for the travel trailer. http://www.SelectComfort.com We like them so much we have convinced several people to try them. They offer coupons on line. They are remarkable and they are fully warrantied. We even had a water bed, still no comparison. Your joints don't have any pressure on them when sleep on air.

I have another product that is remarkable. We have TENS units to put on areas of pain. You can get a Chiropractor to write you out a prescription or just order it yourself on line. The TENS unit sends electrical impuses to stop the pain without medication. http://www.bodyclock.net/acatalog/tensunit.html They are portable with batteries. We have three of them, one my husband wears on his lower back, and one he wears on his knee pain. It stops most of the pain on most people. A regular Doctor just wants to keep you on pain medicine. It isn't good on your other organs in your body if you are on strong pain medication for a very long time.
We have been dealing with AS for 19 years. If you find something that works, then why not share the information with other people.
I just thought maybe this might be interesting to someone that suffers with AS or RA or any arthiritic condition.
Before I forget, we have been sleeping on our Select Air Bed for 10 years.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Ann,
Unfortunately there was something strange about the link you provided for TENS machines and I had to delete it. I've replaced it with a link to another site offering TENS machines, just at random. Actually these ones look pricey, I'm sure better prices might be found by searching a little more.

I have the same bed too! I was at a AS meeting here in Phoenix, and most of us have the same bed! We all pretty much love it. You're not alone!

I want a bed that turns me every 30 minutes during the night and in the morning gently lifts me to an upright position.

I am sorry but this bed won't turn you over, but it will deffinately take the pressure off your spine and hips. You will be sleeping on individual air chambers and it is like sleeping on heaven. It is the only beds that we will buy any more. We had some expensive beds and this is the only one for people with AS or any back related problems. My husband has a lot of trouble sleeping but with this bed he doesn't have any trouble getting comfortable . He turns over nearly every thirty minute, but now he can go back to sleep with the matress. You may have to see if you can get one of those adjustable beds that lifts you up.
Good luck to you.

I have a sleep comfort also and it is awesome. Being able to adjust it helps so much in sleeping. Don't know how I slept without it.

I still want a bed that gently turns me during the night several times and lifts me out of it in the mornings, one that makes a cup of tea as well would be great.
