Hi all
I haven't visited the site for a while - it's good to be here again. I just wondered about how AS might affect the eye. I've heard of iritis but haven't had any problem with this. What I have noticed though is that I've been getting a lot of floaters in my right eye. Has anyone else had this problem. My eye pressure has been measured and it is a little above the normal range so this could be the reason for the floaters, but just wondered if it could be related to AS.

Best wishes

Stephen

I get floaters in my right eye and I get flashes of light some as bad as fireworks. Had it checked and the gell in the eye had torn away from the retina. The doctor said it is common and is not as problematic as a retinal tear where the retina itself tears from the back of the eye.

He said the increased floaters are all caused by this.

Hi Stephen,
About 2 years ago I started having problems with my right eye with something that looks like a flash from a camera in the upper right field of vision (no iritis though). I went to specialists including a retna specialist and they never were able to determine what it was. I was told it might have been from a virus, but over 2 years later its still there. I ignore it mostly, but in the past few days it has been driving me crazy! Hope your floaters disappear or you get used to them.

Hi Bob,

Every couple of months, I get the same symptoms as you describe. My Opthamologist says to not be concerned as it is typical of my dry eye syndrome. I find the floaters a bit frustrating though. Have you learned how to stop them yet and keep them hovering in just one position? It's almost like one of those small electronic games.

I get the floaters too and my opthamologist said it is not important and is related to aging. I also have glaucoma and had a cataract removed so maybe that started them. Like George, I play the game trying to get them to hover and sometimes if I am really on it then I can get them to float to the bottom of my vision and stay there. They are worse some days and better others with no real reason for it.

I have them really bad in both eyes. And while my Opthalmologist says they are just a natural part of the aging of the eyes, it is funny to me that they started really getting bad about the same time I started having back problems - early to mid 20s. I won't say they are AS-related, but it is a pretty interesting coincidence, especially to see them brought up in this forum.

Johnny

By the way, yes, I do play the game of trying to control their movement. And another thing I really like to do is to look up at the sky (that's when they are most noticable), they will be all over the place, and I like to check for new ones and try and decide what they look like, kinda like the cloud game. I have a dragon, that has been around the longest, in my left eye.

Hi,

just watch out mine changes from dry eye, to a more painful situation feels like someone is drilling your eye and then you get light sensetivity pain. If that happens go see Dr.

I get them too. Not tons of them, just one or two since I was about 27. Now my opthamologist told me that it was due to scarring from the iritis I'd had!!

Hugs,

Kat
