If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I started the NSD and cut out dairy products. I get calcium from drinking soya milk, four glasses a day. I tried different name brands. I found a couple that is starch free by the iodine test. Does that mean its okay? I tried the NSD for three weeks without any obvious effect. However, I've never tried the three day apple diet. Should I try the three day apple diet now? Thanks. Olivia.

Soy milk is no good for me.
List out what you are eating, maybe something is sneaking in and you are not aware. I saw results within a week myself.
I waited 1/2 yr to do apple fast, wish I would have waited 1/2 hour it helps me out so much.
Take care,
Tim

Hi Tim, I believe you already have good results with NSD. It's very nice that you still go on the forum and help other people. I eat tofu, canned fish, cucumbers, carrots, beef, chicken, pork, plums, nectarines, almonds, eggs, bitter melons, raisins, orange sherbert and vanilla ice-cream. I drink fruit juices and iodine tested starch free soya milk. My family will be going to the apple orchard to pick apples from the trees tomorrow morning so I can start my apple diet. It's apple harvest time in Ontario, Canada. Do I have to eat Red Delicious apples ? Will other apples do ? So, I just eat apples and drink water for 3 days, and then take 2 tablespoons of olive oil at the end ? Also, I have to avoid strenous exercise and use enema after the first bowel movement at the end of the 3 days diet ? Am I going to lose weight by doing the 3 day apple diet and/or the NSD? I'm quite skinny and I don't need to lose weight ! Thanks Olivia

Hi Olivia,
You may want to check the ingredients labels on your canned meats. I, too, eat canned meats because they're portable when I go places that might not have anything but salad for me to eat. Many canned meats, though, have modified food starch or vegetable broth in them -- the vegetable broth might have potatoes or soy which could be a problem. I've been able to find some canned tuna fillets in olive oil and salt, and canned salmon (without skin or bones) and chicken breast in only water and salt.
Also, you said you are going non-dairy, but that you're still eating ice cream. That could be a possible draw back if you are indeed sensitive to dairy.
About the apple diet -- I've been sticking to the Red Delicious since John (Dragonslayer) said that the redder the better. I'd really prefer Galas, but there not the reddest. Also, I may be wrong about this, but I'm thinking we're to take 1/2 c. of the ollive oil in multiple teaspoon doses through the last afternoon/evening of the fast. I'm not planning to do an enema, either!! Maybe someone else can respond as to whether that is really necessary or not.
The first time I did the apple diet, I didn't lose an ounce. This time, I've dropped a couple of pounds, but it's very likely that the scale will go back up as soon as I resume eating normally -- although for me, I hope it doesn't!!!
Best wishes as you get started with all of this. Responses you get to your questions from some of the others will help me, too, I'm sure.
Paula

Hi Olivia,
Ice cream is a rare treat for me and has to be all natural brands... others have fillers and serbert is out.
Paula covered apples fairly well. Three days of apples... third day take in olive oil... I take 2 teaspoons on the hour for 4-5 hours starting at noon on 3rd day. I always stick with red delicious and have excellent results personally.
I also plan on a down weekend... nothing too strenuous.. the first couple times I did the apples I felt pretty crummy since body detoxing.. now I do better.
Do not feel pressured to make it three days if you can not. If you need work do for a day.... then next time two days etc.... Giving the body a rest from digesting complex foods (fats, carbs) helps.
I am also slender and worried about dropping weight... I may drop 1-3 lbs during, but gain it back upon resuming my normal NSD.

I will drop the ice-cream. (very difficult to resist though !) Also, I will check the labels of my canned meat and canned fish more carefully.Gee ! I hate to spend so much time thinking what to eat and checking labels what I am eating. I can't stand watching those commercials on Kentucky Fried Chicken and Hambergers and French Fries. Although I don't usually eat those everyday, once a week is nice! I'm wondering.......body gets energy by burning carbohydrates.......If we don't eat starch, where does the body gets energy from ? Thanks Olivia

Hi Olivia,
Actually, as I understand it, fresh fruits and veggies have plenty of carbohydrates for us -- and they also have loads of vitamins and minerals for us, too.
I know what you mean, too, about foods being hard to resist. My daughter's birthday party was this weekend, and we brought in pizza and had homemade double layer chocolate cake and ice cream. It was the pizza that I had the hardest time resisting -- and if I hadn't been on the apple diet, I might have caved in. But, feeling better and getting better really is worth it. It can be hard, though, to be stalwart about it when progress is slow or seems non-existent. Or it can be tempting just to cheat to see if there would be a reaction. But for me, that's like deliberately taking a step backward.
Best wishes!
Paula

On Sept 27, I started Bextra and NSD. After 10 days, My SI joint pain had reduced by 50 %. I could finally walk outside the house. I went to a massage and hydrotherapy class on Oct 7. Next day, my SI joint pain had increased by 50 %. I can hardly walk one step now. I'm so disappointed, I thought I was getting better and better. I don't really want to go on to Sulphasalazine which the rhematologist recommended if Bextra was not enough to control the pain. Apple diet may be my last resolution before trying Sulphasalazine. I hate myself because I can't take care of my family. I feel so useless ! Olivia

The apple diet made me so sick. I have headache, nausea, always feel hungry and can't sleep. I have to quit. I've been thinking......I 've had this AS for 12 years.......sometimes it flares up for a month....after I take anti-inflammatory for a while , it will go into remission for 1 to 2 years......during these times I've never changed my diet........if starch is causing me trouble, I should have pain constantly right? If I can be in remission for 2 years while taking starch, that means starch is not a factor for my AS ! Please correct me if I am wrong !! Thanks Olivia
