Hi all,
My doc gave me asleeping pill called Starnoc. I tried it for a few nights but it really took along time to work and did not give me a restful sleep at all. I really didn't like it. I have lots of problems with sleep lately due to head pain (like a bad migraine) from occipital inflammation. I take oxy 10 mg at night, but if the pain is bad it can keep me up until 5:00 am until I finally pass out. I used to take Gravol at night but find I am so tired the next day. What is your take on sleeping pills and is Ambien a sleeping pill? I have heard some of you say you use it. Is it available in Canada per chance? What else do you recommend for sleep. I can't increase my oxy as I will itch at any higher dose which then keeps me up all night and defeats the purpose.

hi there!
sorry you are having trouble sleeping...i feel your pain.
i use soma for sleep. it's a muscle relaxant and allows me to sleep well. i've heard other members mention the ambien but have no personal experience with it. i dont have any side effects from the soma and have used it for years now. hope you get some good sleep soon! we're getting lots of rain and the weather is tearing up my back not allowing for much sleep.

take care!

Adios!

Hey Rene,

Ambien (zolpidem) works great for at least the first week you use it. I took it for a while so I could get some sleep. The first week I took it I was sleepy within 15 to 30 minutes and would sleep seven to eight hours without waking up at all. The second week I took it I got sleepy the same as the first, but I would only sleep an hour to an hour and a half and then be wide awake the rest of the night. Drugs tend to wear off quicker with me than with others so maybe some of the others here have had better luck using it. Not sure if it is available in Canada or not.

Hi Buggy
Soma is not available in Canada. I checked with my family doc last time I saw him. What's the other name for Soma? Ultram, Utracet? Now I'm going to go nuts trying to remember that.
Hi Brent
I will check out the Ambien to see if it is here in Canada. Too bad it didn't continue to work for you.

Hi Julie,

Have you tried flexeril or low-dose amitryptiline for sleep ? I have found that either medication works well for sleeping through the night and giving a more restful sleep. Both are inexpensive meds as well.

Hi Julie.
Trazadone worked really well for me but I had to stop it because I have Sjogren's and it added to my dryness problem. I tried Ambien but it gave me amnesia after a while. It is a hypnotic. I didn't like it.

Now I take 1 and 1/2 mg. Xanax to get to sleep and I take 300 mg. Neurontin to help me have the right level of sleep. I am sleeping very good now. Finally found something that works well. Sometimes I have to have a pain pill also.

Hope you find something that works for you. We are all different.

Joyce

Julie:

I take a low dose of amitriptyline - It works very well for me, sleeping now 8 hours per night, and I am not drousy when I get up in the morning as I was with Tylenol PM. The only side-effect I experience from it is dizziness but its something I will tolerate to get a good nights sleep. Good luck finding a med to help. Don't give up trying to find one, our sleep is needed to help heal our bodies-

Shari
