Hi. While attempting to teach myself some programming, I put together a little web based application to collect various aspects of AS and how it affects an individual. The results are organized into tables. I usually hang out at the SAA site and mentioned it there first. So far there's about 40 entries. If anybody is interested, here's the link. Feel free to add to it. Let me know if you have any problems or suggestions. Happy holidays!

Thanks. A couple of the issues I see is that on average it's about 8 years until a dx is determined. Also something that we all know because we feel it everyday, is despite all the medications the average pain level is still somewhere around 5.

Shane,

Almost 20% are lefties? That is amazing. What have you read that would make you ask that as part of your data? Just curious!

Yes, that is rather interesting. I never realized there were that many lefty's out there. The reason for including this was because of a post on the SAA message boards. A news report says that there may be a connection between lefty's and bowel disease. The poster thought that since Crohn's disease is "in the spondylitis *loop*" there may be an associaton. Here's the link to the news report. It may not have anything to do with AS at all, but I was surprised to see how many of those with AS are left handed. Thanks for everyone's input!

Hi friendnky,
I think the database is a great idea,
but I have a question about the table.
What is 'age of onset'?

Is it the number of years of having symptoms before being diagnosed with AS?
-or -
Is it the age at which we were diagnosed with AS?

I feel embarrased for asking this.

Thanks,
James

HLA-B27+, JRA diagnosis in 1981, re-diagnosed as AS in 1988. Also iritis, colitis, and psoriasis. NSD + low carb helps me. My health makes it hard for me to post in a timely way.
