I have always had a little problem with retaining fluids, especially when I took NSAIDS, but since starting the NSD I have pitting edema up to my knees, my feet and toes are like tender little sausages. They even hurt to wear shoes.

I see my doc in June and will ask her to order an echo, if this is still a problem since I know AS can effect the valves of the heart and that could cause me to retain this much.

Someone suggested that the diet may throw off my electrolytes, but I take a mutli-vitamin, an eating a lot of fruits and veggies, 3 servings of dairy/day for calcium. that just doesn't make any sense to me.

The last time I retained this much was 27 yrs ago when I was pregnant with my son. My NP told me to eat more protein and the next week I had lost 11 lbs! I am eating protein until I feel it coming out of my ears!

Sometimes the intial change in diet can cause a detox-like response (herx-reaction) and oedema can be a part of that.

It should start to settle within a week, but obviously see your doc if not doing so or worsening.

Maybe try some (gentle) dry skin brushing in the meantime - it is good for moving lymph.

You mentioned aloe vera gel in another post - I've noticed when I use this that any fluid retention soon shifts, so hopefully that will help too.

Seems to be a little better today, but now I am dizzy! Have picked up a cold bug and can feel the body fighting it. Just want to sleep, but can't. Don't want to eat or even take fluids, which I know I should. Feel unsteady.

Life goes on...

my fave flu remedy is noni juice. Tastes bad, but makes me nice and warm and feelin kinda resillient. On the other hand chicken soup is probably just as good and much yummier

all the best to you
