Hi,

It has been a while since I wrote my last post to you. I was in the hospital rehabilitation for a month.
I was on NSD diet for two months before I went to hospital, few days befor hosp. I started with some "Califita" products ( vitamins, algy, acidofil,.....) and they have send me the diet for colitis, wich was completely oposite than NSD, so I couldnt do both of them at the same time (I would probably starve).
Colitis has improved with those products, I go only ones a day, but my back and neck,.............. are in pain again.
My doc gave me sulfosalazines (hope it is wright name).

Doc and my nutricinist, told me that starch has nothing to do with my back pain, and AS...............

Now I have no idea what to do.

Please help me if you have some idea.

thanks
sanela

honestly, eric is right.. they are completely wrong. Starch plays a huge role in AS. Keep their supplements and medication - test them for starch with iodine. Try the NSD out again, make sure you tell us what you are eating and we will help you out and tell you what is and isn't safe.

If I had listened to my rheumy regarding diet, I would not nearly be in as good of shape as I am today. My GP thought it interesting and encouraged.

For some diet is their miracle... may be you as well. Give it a try and if stuggling bring forward your questions to the diet forum.

Best wishes to you.

Sanela, I despair when I hear of doctor's lack of knowledge (or willingness) about dietary links with AS.

TBH I'd never heard of it until I found this place, and to think I only found out about it by almost fluke just makes me shudder.

How many people are there out there who don't have net access, or time to research and read....breaks my heart to think that something so 'simple' is not at this time openily accessible.

This really has been the thing that turned my life around, and I'll forever been indebted to the stalwarts of this place for ensuring the information and support exists.

So....stay the course, do your own research on the best subject available (you!) and when you get results - share them.

It seems like all the doctors I've been to in Korea have encouraged me to do the diet. I think I have found the reason why. The word arthritis in Korean is 'kwan jul yum'. Kwan jul means cartilage. yum means infection. Together they don't mean that the cartilage is infected, but that an infection of some sort affects the cartilage. The fact that it is a bacterial infection does not seem like a stretch to the doctors here. One even said the diet was a very good idea and encouraged me to stay away from the meds.
