If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hey Maggie, pass these on to who ever you want, that's what they are here for. The more people I can help the better. Hopefully I will get to some core stability exercises next week. Cindy
Cindy,
I had the best session yet in the pool today. I got in quite a few laps of backstroke as well as Australian crawl (freestyle). Margaret finally received the exercise regime from the woman in Queensland. These are hydrotherapy exercises. We have already implemented some of these exercises. We then tried out some that were on the sheet (with some very interesting attempts at drowning myself - hee hee).
I found a way to implement some of the new exercises at the same time. When I have time I will try and explain how I have done this, but I think I will have to trial it in the pool again ;-).
Since my purse has been turned up I guess I am a little more upbeat, and after having a 3 and 1/2 hour sleep yesterday, I have been feeling a lot better in the low back.
I am very interested in the core stability exercises. I have more than one gym ball, and I have the toning balls to work with. My doctor wants me to do a certain stretch which I find difficult to do on the floor, but should be able to handle it on the bed. Some of the other stretches that I have been shown I can do whilst I am sitting or standing.
Since I have been doing this therapy I have had decreased pain in the sternum. Also my knees do not hurt anymore. This is fantastic because I have had sore knees for a very long time ;-)

I'm so glad the pool is available for you Best thing in the world. If there is a deep area to the pool, put on a flotation belt and do some deep water walking, it's the greatest. With your laps, do more backstroke than freestyle. Start and end with the backstroke with a little mix in the middle. Sitting here with and ice pack on my face, from surgery this morning, and trying to type isn't working. I'll get those stability exercises next week. Cindy

Coolio, i printed these after saving them to hard drive for resizing. Thanks Manatee.
Sometimes I think my body is an inflammation nation.
AS for 20 years HLAb27+, i think there was talk a negative result at later date, but never confirmed. Have been on many different anti- inflammatory drugs (naproxen to arthrotec to vimovo). Now off all prescription meds except occasional advil or tylenol. Don't underestimate the power of icing (I bought the biggest ice pack i could find and it is good at numbing pain). Aaron

Cindy,
the pool is a deep hydrotherapy pool that has been designed for people who need a program in the water. There are all types who use this pool, not just the oldies in the retirement village.
I am mixing both the backstroke and the freestyle. I thoroughly enjoy doing the freestyle. I have trouble with the backstroke due to the fact that my left shoulder is prone to dislocating. However, we have decided that I can get over this by using a stryene noodle or a flotation collar that helps to keep me afloat.
My new exercises include quite a bit of lying flat on my back in the water. It is hard to describe what these exercises involve because I am only starting to experiment with them and am trying to keep myself afloat.
I am just getting over some very severe spasms and am still taking it easy in the water. There are some exercises that my body seems to demand that I do, and I am concentrating on those exercises for the time being.
I must admit that I am having fun in the water. I am not all that water oriented in winter so this is going to be a real challenge as we head towards winter ;-)

Sounds like your doing all the right things. The program that you are starting, floating on your back I suspect is a relatively new, within the last few years, I can't think of the name of it. It's a middle eastern principle of quiet relaxed range of motion exercises done floating on your back with the aide of an instructor one on one. This is a great program. I'm digging into my old pool files trying to find it. I was going to impliment it into our new pool programming when I worked at the other facility. Water Ai Chi is also another good program, it works range of motion, balance, and strunk stabilization. Good luck with your programs and let me know how things are going. Cindy

I had a new problem with my left hip today. It was extremely painful overnight. Anyway, I did all of the exercises and stretches, added in the backstroke and a few laps of freestyle, and then I tried something new - using the step that is in the water (as used in step aerobics), I knelt on one knee and then stretched the other leg backwards. It was a good stretch. I took the remainder of the morning to be free of the pain, and there has been improvement this afternnon. I will share the stretch with Margaret when she returns next week from having some leave.
I am still looking at and learning the other exercises. My aim is to stay afloat as I have a tendency to sink when I am lying backwards. The best of these exercises is moving my arms from the side and then stretching backwards. It gives a great stretch in the back.
I am having some minor spasm problems at the moment. These are the old spasms that I have tried to explain on a previous occasion. It is most noticeable on the left side (of course) and I not sure why that spot has gone into spasm.
Oh well, after a bad night it is time to head for the bedroom. Nighty-Night.
Maggie

Oh Maggie, sorry you had a bad night. Back off on some of the big hip stretches until it calms down. When you are in the water and want to try to float, try this. Lay on your back, let your knees bend so your feet are pointed down but the rest of your legs are on top, then stretch your arms behind you letting them float on top of the water behind your head. Many people have trouble floating the conventional way because of the difference in their center of gravity verses their center of bouyancy. Men in particular but also women like me have to do it this way. I even have to point my fingers up towards the ceiling to get the right effect. Play around with this next time and take it easy on the hip. Moderation is the key. Have fun Cindy

Hey Cindy,
the problem with my right hip is not related to the stretching. I found that the stretch that I did helped my left hip after it had been so sore. The problem on the right side is a repeat of something that happened last year.
However, I have to back off for a while because of another problem that concerns getting muscles spasms in the chest. I did not even attempt to go near the pool today because I had some problems overnight. Tomorrow I will be too busy to get there and then I am not sure when I will get the chance again because I have the offer of some temp work for about 4 weeks.
I shall have to make sure that I am doing the "land" exercises, and at least try to get to the pool on the Saturdays :-(.
The stretches have been very good for my back and I have felt the difference since I have been attempting those laps and doing some of the other things.
Maggie
