I'm so happy to hear of your improvement
I too have gone back to the water. After our move 2 weeks ago, I found a little pool in town that was quiet, and warm. I had my hubby buy me a membership for Christmas and it's the best gift anyone could ever give me. I've slowly started my deepwater walking and exercises and then do some 4 ft. to teach myself how to walk again. Just being back in the pool after all these years has been absolutly wonderful. Yes, I still have to take my pain meds, but, physically I feel a bit stronger and emotionally, a bit more able to accept and adapt. Keep up the good work in the pool, it really is the best thing for anyone with AS.
Tote that cushion, many of us have to do that. Hard chairs definately are not our friend
Good luck fellow "fish" and keep me posted

Cindy

Cindy,

it is wonderful to hear that you have hit the water again. . You will not regret the move and you will begin to become stronger

I went to the pool today. I was a little sore by the time that I had finished, but that is really ok. I have been working on the butt squeezes as much as possible.

I have dropped back a little bit with the walking because I was getting into too much pain. However, I am doing my walking in fits and starts and it is amazing how much I can achieve when I keep going. The cat and dog just sit and watch this mad woman walking around the pool

When we warm up in the pool we do the walking back and forth forwards, backwards, and sideways. I had trouble with the sideways after I hurt my coccyx but things are getting better. I find that I really like to stretch my legs out behind me, and I use a rocking motion, moving up to the wall, and then moving backwards.

Anyway, I am beginning to see the difference in my legs, because my thighs are becoming firmer, but I have a long, long way to go. I am still hoping to work my way around a few problems with my legs and knees. I have been in a flare that affected my low back, but am doing fine at the present time (despite the humidity, yuk)

Maggie

Have you tried deep water walking? Absolutely the best. I designed the first deep water class in PA 16 years ago. It's one of the most popular classes out there now. The thing is you can adjust it so that anyone from our poor disabled bodies to the elite athlete can benefit.
Happy walking

Hi Cindy,

we walk in a level up to our shoulders . The warm up always consists of the walking, but I like my other exercises the most.
