Hi,

I'm wondering if any ladies here using anti-TNF (Enbrel) has had a procedure done called uterine fibroid embolization or any similar procedure. Radiologist put polyvinyl particles in the uterine arteries to stop the blood flow to the fibroids. Since the particles are foreign matters, I don't know what the reaction of our immune system will be when it's already suppressed by the anti-TNF.

I asked my rheumatologist this question. She has no idea !!

Regards,
Olivia

Hi there, I googled uterine fybroid embolization and found:

Radiology Info

which has a pretty good explanation.

This could be related to TNF-a. Certainly, they haven't done much research on the effects of biologics on female reproductive stuff. So, it's hard to say if the biologic would affect this procedure. I would think that since TNF-a is what attacks foreign bodies in our systems, since the enbrel is suppressing this, that action would not occur. (???)

I don't know. I just hope you are OK.

Hugs,

Kat
