If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi, Does anybody know of a food or supplement that acts as an alternative to antibiotics? My doctor won't prescribe antibiotics for me unless he sees it as very necessary to do so. I have a Candida-ish problem, plegm / mucus in and around bronchials, some minor ear infections, and toenail infections.
So anything that works against bacterial and fungal infections is probably what I'm looking for. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks James.

Personally, I'm a big fan of garlic. Just make sure you take enough. I've taken high quality supplements as needed. I've also added garlic (usually three cloves, but had to gradually increase to this amount) to my juicing regimen when the need arises. You might stink a little bit (either via your breath or pores), but it's a great way to keep undesirable people away anyway. Keeps the vamps away too!
I haven't had a sinus infection (used to get them two or three times a year), the flu, or a cold for over two years now. Just can't get rid of this darn AS (ha!). I got pretty tired of the docs and their multiple rounds of antibiotics when I, supposedly, had pneumonia in winter 2004/2005. I know that pneumonia, if that is what it really was, is nothing to mess around with though. I just figure that my "antibiotics" can be darn near as good as theirs. I'd also recommend up to 5mg of sodium ascorbate (vitamin C) per day. I'm of the belief that I need to continually keep my immune system strong. Immuno-suppresents are a no-no for this guy, they invite too much trouble. Good luck. Let us know what you try and what works.

Hi there, Thanks for the link, Ive been to Bee's site before, but I didn't quite grasp the theory behind homemade biotics or pre-fermenting then. I must have had one of those off-days again. So I am understanding this correctly? So if we consume enough good bacteria, it will help ward off any bad bacteria? Sounds easy enough :-) I suppose that's why they call it good bacteria. Right now I eat Dannon "All Natural" with live & active culture, 4oz daily. They also sell Dannon Activa a probiotic type of yogurt but I haven't tried it yet. How would everyone say these compare to making our own yogurt? I am thinking about trying to make the sauerkraut first... sounds very easy to make. Thanks for the help, Take Care, James.

Hi, I love garlic, I even used to eat it raw. I used to put garlic in most of my meals. Since I hurt my back, I have been relieved of my kitchen duties , so fresh garlic eventually got replaced by garlic powder. You know, I have been sneezing alot when I go outside, practically all year, so I wonder if it's because I stopped eating as much garlic. Anyways, my wife saw your suggestion and is going to start using fresh garlic again. I didn't even have to ask. Hmm, maybe I should have her pull up a chair next to me when I visit the forums. I know what you mean about certain aromas too lol. Thanks for the suggestion, James.

Hey James....yup, fresh garlic can't be beat! I also buy minced garlic in a jar and am trying a minced ginger as well.
And yes, definately have your wife pull up a chair beside you every once in a while when you are visiting the site. I think it is important for the spouse to read some of the info here. I think it is good for the spouses to read some of the backgrounds of folks here, too, it can give your spouse a glimpse into the life of AS. Also, it is nice to share some of the friends here on the site with our beloved spouse!!
Cheers, Rita

Raw garlic is great, it is an anitfungal, so will kill candida. But I have trouble with it being so strong, so I like to use a garlic crusher, and add it to soups just as I am serving it into the bowl, it seems to take the edge off for me.

Coconut oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Since my hubby started consuming a lot of dessicated coconut in baking his AS has improved heaps. I'm not sure if it's the oil or the huge amount of fibre in the coconut that is doing it (sweeping out the gut).
It was the addition of coconut to his diet that finally let him reach remission of his AS.

I swear to god that good saurkraut, good yogurt, and good probiotic supplements have saved me from the candida monster. Wish my doc told me this in the first place. I found this out only after I developed a diflucan/fluconazole resistant strain, and medications no longer worked.
