If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi everyone, In the past couple of months I've become addicted to Diet Coke. Strange because I've never liked anything with the word "Diet" on it. Anyway, a friend of mine keeps telling me to quit drinking it because the sugar substitute in it causes pain to get worse. Has anyone ever heard this before or know of any ingredients that cause pain to get worse? Beth

Beth, I have never noticed this nor heard of it. I have heard that the sugar substitute is bad for you. I drink Diet and regular Coke, I think I would notice a difference but maybe not. Do you know what the sugar substitute is called? Maybe I will do some research about it. ******** Kristin

Dear Beth: It is called Aspartame, and some people believe that it causes various reactions, especially some muscle pains and headaches. It is hard to argue with someone who has headaches and then does not after quitting only the aspartame-containing products, but I thought that it was an amino-acid derived from grapefruits, originally--not all "natural" things are good, however. I gave it up for more than a year and did not notice any difference. In fact, carbonated drinks are not especially good for us, due to the potential to stress our lesions, I suppose, or the phosphoric acid for the calcium mismanagement issue... Best Regards, John

Beth check out the discussion in the main foram on the effects of caffine in coffee. Can't remember the exact title of the thread. The caffine and artificial sweetner can cause pain in the joints.

Aspartame - but there are some crazy scare-stories out there about it, as well as sound research. Diana Schwarzbein, one of the low-carb gurus, hates it and most of what she writes seems pretty reasonable. I dunno, you just don't know what to believe. I try and stay off the soda because the acid rots your teeth. Is there anything we can eat or drink that won't kill us? You'll be telling me smoking's bad for me next Dave
