I am happy to hear that NSD diet stops flare ups and pain.
But my problem is not the pain but stiffness of the area of spine even though I have no Anyklosis(vertebraes not joined).
So if I fully commit myself to NSD, would my spine loosen up and have or feel no rigidness?
I say I am pain free but the sort of stress I have on my back is like a wheel of a truck has run over along my spine leaving me with tingling sensation as one would have when recovery starts afterwoods.

Hi, Petra:

(Your post was moved to better answer your questions and keep the section on success stories limited to that topic).

I believe that you will avoid any damage that might later be caused by the mechanism of AS, and the stiffness and tingling is due to 'fibrosis' the stage before calcification (fusion), which can be eliminated through strict diet.

Once you are able to move better, exercise will be very helpful, also, in gaining more movement and preventing fusion.

Please do not hesitate to ask for help if you have any questions about NSD, and I hope we can soon see your success story posted in that thread.

Health,
John

Hi Petra, I had a lot of stiffness too in the beginning. My PT thought I had a herniated disc and told me not to do any flexion stretching. So for 6 months before I got diagnosed, I didn't, which of course is the opposite advice for AS. The first time I sat down to stretch forward I couldn't go past 90 degrees. But after a couple of weeks of stretching every day, I was pretty much back to normal.

I also had the tingling in my right leg and right arm but after 5 months on NSD those symptoms have gone away. I am not completely pain free, but much better than I was before I started the diet.

Good luck,
Annette

Hello Petra,

I have been on NSD since last October and the maximum difference I have noticed is in reducing the stiffness. Before I started the diet, I could barely raise my head and look-up and could not stand absolutely straight for first 4-5 minutes in the morning. Now, I feel considerably better when I get up from sleep. Though the thoraic part and the neck still become a bit stiff, the intensity is much less than what it used to be.

I had noticed the first effects within first two months and the intensity of the stiffness has remained dull even though now I occasionally permit myself rice and also rice beer.

Best,

Nothing is guaranteed, but NSD would be worth a try. I would recommend also eliminating all sugars, including diary and fruit. After you have healed you can go back to eating fruits, so thats only temporary, but it is necessary in the beginning. It took me 3 months for ALL pain to go away, so I knew the dietary changes were being effective, but it was 10 months before I could tolerate fruit again.

Please check out my blog, and let me know if you have any more questions. I am amazed in how diet has eliminated my pain. It worked for me, so I say go for it. If you are diligent, I don't think you'll be sorry.
