I have had surgery while on Remicade, but not on Humira as of yet. I am about due for surgery possibly in the next year(?) Are you anticipating surgery?

I may have to have gallbladder surgery, I have an appt with the surgeon for a consult tomorrow. This is a result of having what turned out to be a galbladder attack Thursday night. I am curious about having surgery while taking an immuno suppresant such as Humira or Remicade, Enbrel, etc. Did you have to stop taking the Remicade before surgery? Did it affect how susceptible you were to infection post surgery?

hi there!
sorry i cant be of much help..i had gallbladder surgery while 6 mos preggers years ago. this was when my AS symptoms were starting to chug ahead full force.

i've been on remicade and had to come off. too many infections from it suppressing my immune system. doc pulled me off. was on humira a couple months..same thing happened. i would definitely check with your doc on it...just my little opninon. those meds absolutely stripped my immune system. scared the bajeebus out of me.

keep us posted...buggy

HI. I've had a couple surgeries while on Enbrel. It was no problem. I just didn't take enbrel for a week after surgery, with the expection of a month after the last surgery in Dec 2007 because the wound was still open after the stitches were removed. It eventually closed.

I am deaf!!! Finally dx'ed with AS after 10 years. Yes, that is my cat in the picture of me. Yes, he does look pizzed! He doesn't like being held!

I had GalBladder surgery when I was on enbrel. I had no problems at all. I am guessing that you already posted this before now since the title was I guess nobody has had surgery while on Humira??? If you have I would have responded but I was gone for a week. Sorry....
Are you having surgery soon? What kind of surgery are you having?

big hugs
kell

When on Remicade, I had to wait three or four weeks after the I.V.
On Humira I was told I will have to wait one week.

It is important to tell them you have AS. They are careful with things like that making sure they give you a fair amount of antibiotics, etc. There are many who have surgery and are immune deficient.

My doctor told me as soon as I could get on my feet to try and leave the hospital as soon as posible. The hospital can be the worst part as far as germs, viruses, etc. I spent very little time there.

I hope everything goes well for you.

Bill
