I am about to go on vacation! Yay! I always have to have a good book to read on the plane and at my family's house for my alone time! hehe

Any suggestions of great books you've read lately? I get anxious flying alone, so I like to get a book I can get deep into to get my mind off of it.

Thanks!

I just finished reading two good books. I find I can't read anything too intense when I'm traveling. Both of these were good reads without being too involved.
"The Lottery"-the story of a learning disabled man who wins the lottery. It reminded me of "Forrest Gump".
"The Shack"-It's number one on the New York Times trade paperback fiction bestseller list.
"Early in the novel the young daughter of the protagonist, Mack, is abducted. Four years later he visits the shack where evidence of the girl’s murder was discovered. He spends a weekend there in a kind of spiritual therapy session with God (an African American woman) who calls herself “Papa”; Jesus, who appears as a Jewish workman; and Sarayu, an indeterminately Asian woman who incarnates the Holy Spirit."
(Quoted from: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/24/books/24shack.html)

Although I had some theological issues with the book, it was a great read with a unique depiction of God.

Have a good trip!

Karen

Hi Ally,

Pillars Of The Earth, A World Without End, Marley and Me, The Other Bolelyn Girl. Marley and Me I laughed so hard and cried. It is an easy, fast read, the others are a little longer but very interesting. All are good books though, depends what you are looking for.

i second alan's sudoku suggestion. i became addicted to it on a plane trip and now i never fly without it. the trip seems so much shorter when engrossed in it. warning though, can be very addictive.

Wizard's First Rule, by Terry Goodkind. Becareful with this one tho, it's the first in a long series and quite addictive! Here's his website: Terry Goodkind

For light reading, a mystery series by Lillian Jackson Braun (her website: Lillian Jackson Braun . All the titles start with "The Cat Who...". A crusty old journalist ends up with two purebred Siamese cats named Koko and Yum Yum and they all solve mysteries together. It sounds silly, and truthfully, these books are pure brain candy, but they are well written and Ms Braun knows cats very well. They're alot of fun.

Have a great holiday!!

Warm hugs,

Kat

found the link to the old post that you started about a book club.

maybe you already saw this but were just looking for more answers.
anyway, thought it might help. others as well as yourself.

i know i like to read the suggestions, i really do love to read.

though i find myself doing so much reading related to my field that my favorite books outside of work are cookbooks on second thought, that would probably be true even if i didn't do so much work related reading.
