If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi. Am looking for a starch free systemic enzyme supplement available here in the UK. The product I wanted to purchase is 'Zymessence' but contains maltodextrin - will this be enough to cause problems during NSD? I was wondering if due to all the enzymes in the supplement the starch would be broken down straight away anyway. I have tried vitalzym and wobenzym before with mixed result which is why i wanted to try a stronger formulation. Wobenzym has rice starch in. Any suggestions/recommendations would be apprecaited. Thanks

Hi. Just an update on this...I decided to go ahead and buy the Zymmessence enzymes with maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is Corn starch. As mentioned I thought a small bit would not matter or may be broken down into basic carbs and so digested. Wrong!! I've been taking a reasonable dose for the past week and now large flare! Is a shame as I was doing quite well prior to starting these but not quite well enough to stop NSAIDs. This was my way of getting off them but I will have to search for a brand without any starch!!
I've read a few bits on this forum re maltodextrin - some say it is inert and not metabolosed and therefore no problems for NSD. Otheres seem to flare following consumption. I seem to be the latter. Wondering if anyone has any pearls for NSAID alternatives other than this? Thanks,

Hi, I'm not sure if this is helpful or what you are looking for but many of us here do well with the lacto fermented sauerkraut. It replaces supplements for both digestive enzymes and probiotics. Its the natural healthy way food was preserved, before mass production was invented, heat and processing, destroying healthy food. http://myankylosingspondylitis.blogspot.com/2008/04/lacto-fermented-sauerkraut.htmlyou can search the forums here and get many recommendations from those of us who are having success with it. You only need about a tablespoon with each meal, and you get used to the taste of it before too long. Its very easy to make yourself. Its saves me lots of money.

Hi Jeanne,
Thanks for that. I did look briefly at it some time ago but decided probiotic made life a lot easier. However, they are v expensive as you say!
Will let people know if I find a good systemic enzyme. These are different to digestive enzymes in that they are taken inbetween meals so are not supposed to be for digestion. They work on the premise of leaky gut syndrome - releasing large protein molecules and immune complexes into the bloodstream. The idea is that they break down these complexes meaning they cannot reach their target organ and cause damage. They have a long history of use particularly in Germany and Europe in inflammatory disorders among other things. The saurkraut would not replace these in this case but may well be a great option for my apalling digestion!!

Hey, crazyfool:
Great alternatives to NSAIDs --first, you have to take about 11g daily EFAs, but especially try 2-3g nightly GLAs (borage seed oil and some others), most of the EFAs can be EVOliveOil, but be sure to get some salmon or cod liver oil. --Then extra magnesium; magnesium citrate is fine at just a couple of tablespoonfuls daily. --In times of flare, fresh wheatgrass juice three days in a row on empty stomach: 4-6oz each day. --Days drink some fresh ginger tea; leave the ginger out, but make it strong.
To get plenty of enzymes, eat raw vegetables that have sat out an extra day or two and plenty of sprouts, especially alfalfa but mung bean also; you can buy a sprouter and sprout mixes that have wonderful radish seeds, too. It's all good. These vegetable (and not so much fruit-) enzymes are the ones we require most.
HEALTH, John

Hi CF,
I know I took a multi vitamin on naturopaths advise after they said should be safe knowing diet I was on... wrong. After 3 days full flare. I went on and off it 3 times to make sure and it was most surely the multi vitamin. Naturopath could not believe that small amount could cause issue... nearly could I at the time.
