Hi Grace and welcome from a fellow NZer! I'm in Auckland, where are you?

My hubby has AS... he is 32 yrs old. He manages his AS without meds using the No Starch Diet.

I wish you all the best in finding a treatment method that works for you. Hope you get some relief soon.

Chelsea

Hi, Welcome to KA.
It's shocking that you had to suggest to your GP to be referred to a Rheumatoligist- he should have done that 3 years ago when you were first diagnosed. Let us know if you are located in Auckland- as we live in Auckland and have just found a great Rheumy. We are also at the mercy of the public health system too and only now found someone who took the time to listen. My husband has only seen this Rheumy once but he spent 3 hours with my husband on the first visit, but his previous one really just treated Len like he has Rhem Arthritis and never took extra tests or really examined him (he was always in a hurry). This new Rheumy hasnt yet made any suggestions but I'm thrilled to have someone that cares enough to spend that much time on him.

Hi Gracea,

Welcome to kickas! I hope you get to like the people here as much as I do. Hearing what you said reminds me of the times where I have said, 'I didn't know what pain was, until I got AS'. I hope you new rheumy visit goes well... The right treatments for you can make those pains go away.

Take care,
James.

HLA-B27+, JRA diagnosis in 1981, re-diagnosed as AS in 1988. Also iritis, colitis, and psoriasis. NSD + low carb helps me. My health makes it hard for me to post in a timely way.

Hi Grace, It's good to have you here. I know that you will find lots of answers to questions, as there are many here your age you can identify with. Then of course there are us "old dinosaurs" that will give you lots of experience. Hang around now, and get to know everyone
