Hi friends,
Does anyone juice regularly? Is there concern about consuming too many starches from the juiced veggies?
I was just diagnosed with cataracts (from uveitis/iritis--steroid drops) at age 41 and blepharitis. I was wondering about juicing because then I could get a lot of the benefits of vegetables, such as lutein, in higher concentrations.
Thanks for any feedback or advice.
Jan

I had been juicing intermittently (two or three times a week), then for a period of about six months I was juicing daily. I stopped sometime mid-summer (maybe?) due to problems with my facial pain/neuralgia, but will start again when things settle down. Regarding NSD and some of the high nutrient root vegetables, I'd just say you'd have to experiment for yourself. I was able to juice carrots and beets without any adverse effects. Then again, I only adhere to LSD, therefore I can let a little bit of starch into my diet. However you approach it though, I don't see a downside to consuming fresh, live juices.

Kind Regards,
Jay

I use a vita mixer. I love watermelon and strawberries in the summer. Depending on the season, I drink green juices daily. Pears are coming into season and thats a really good one, the pineapple one is good during grape season now too.

GREEN SMOOTHIES

1/4 fresh whole pineapple
1+ cup fresh spinach leaves
1 cup frozen green grapes
2-3 spearmint leaves
pinch grey sea salt
splash of chilled water

Blend all ingredients till smooth.

OR

1/2 large cucumber
1 stalk celery
pinch GREY sea salt
1 large handful frozen red grapes
splash of chilled water

Blend all ingredients till smooth.

OR

2 ripe bosc pears
1 bunch fresh parsley
Pinch GREY sea salt
chilled water and ice

Blend all ingredients till smooth.

I juice, on my Juiceman Jr, 1/2 beet, 2 apples and 3 or 4 carrots which usually produces about 20 oz. Should do that more often actually.

Hi Jan,

I juice, and go through phases. The most common thing I juice is red cabbage. I normally put a celery stalk or two with every batch I make too.

I think starches will still be an issue, but the iodine should help keep you clear. I don't even test celery or red cabbage anymore. I've never had a problem when juicing either. (I do avoid the cores of the cabbage though...)

Once, I juiced some ginger. I could have sworn it helped nip a flare, but haven't had a chance to test again (good and bad). Ginger can be a potent anti-inflammatory and I think some report it as being anti-Kp.

Hi there,

I used to juice each day with first 1/2 year on diet. It is expensive and time consuming... but tastes great (in my opinion) and many benefits.

Thanks so much for all your responses and helpful information. My husband got me a juicer, a Jack Lalanne one that was on sale at Target. So far I've made juice with kale and spinach and all kinds of wonderful vegetables and a little fruit. Really delicious! I raise a glass of murky green goodness to all of you: cheers!

I used to juice... but started adding one to many cloves of garlic to my 'salad' and it almost came up as fast as it went down. It left such a taste in my mouth I haven't juiced veggies since! LOL!

Today, I bought a bushel of apples for $2.75 and juiced half of them for apple cider. I add some salt & let it ferment a couple days before drinking to make it a nice drink filled with probiotics. That's about all I juice for now, but am starting to think I need to get back to it again. without the garlic, I think.

I juice every morning. Green lemonade or limeade. All organic. Pushed through an Omega juicer that I purchased specifically to do greens and wheatgrass.

1 cucumber or a small head of romaine
2 stalks celery
1 broccoli stem (if I have one)
half a green apple
half a lemon or lime
spinach or kale

You'd be surprised how good it tastes. I do a 16-ounce glass every morning. Sometimes I follow it up with a green smoothie--two cups mixed frozen berries, one ripe pear, couple cups spinach, kale or beet greens.
