Hi all

Anybody with information on special car driving mirrors for people with restricted neck movement? Your experiences, good or bad will be very welcome.

Thanks

Stephen

Stephen,

If you expand this post to show posts for all dates, someone put up a post about a swivel for your car seat. It looked like it would really help you to be able to turn to look out of mirrors. I'll try to find it and bump it up so you can get a look at it.

Take care my friend

Hi,
I use trailer mirrors with blind spot mirrors attached. I also use a blind spot rear view mirror. The combination of these with the swivel car seat mentioned by dan make driving alot easier. The seat also helps in getting in and out of the car. http://www.ouch.com has the swivel seats, just click on the hip area of the human body they use for navigation and you should run across it. The mirrors I use can be bought at Wal-Mart here in the U.S..

Hope this has helped some...

Hi Stephen. One thing I've mentioned over the years is to make sure to keep the regular rear view mirror up as high as comfortable (and don't change it!) otherwise you tend to slouch a bit more little by little. At least that's what happened to me.
As long as I can see the side mirrors with the blind side little guy I feel I'm doing ok. I compare that to driving a windowless van...
Cheers,

Timo

All of the above suggestions are good, and I have another one. If you have a marine supply store near you, go and ask for a fish-eye marine mirror designed for boats. The one I have is rectangular, about twice the size of a regular windshield rearview mirror, with clips that let you attach it to your rearview mirror. The extra width and length, combined with the fish-eye angling, almost eliminates all of your blind spots (at least it does when I drive my pick-up truck--not as good when I take the Blazer). It was less than $20, and it's been a huge help. I actually got mine at a special shop in Michigan that specializes in handicapped driving aids, but the packaging showed it was just a common marine mirror.

Hello everyone. I am looking into getting a new car so I am doing some research for myself and stumbled on this message. I have had AS for 20 years now. We have something here in Canada called a "Lanechanger" Mirror that I have installed in my van. It is great for seeing your blindspots and was easy to install on my van. I had only a basic rear view mirror to replace though. If you car has anything fancier I don't know how easy it would be. I also keep a hand mirror for when I am turning. I can see to the right OK with the better angle of oncoming traffic and a slight twist I have. I use the hand mirror to watch for cars from the left. Hope this helps a bit. I want to look into that swivel cushion someone mentioned here. It sounds good.

I notieced that are 3 different lane changer mirrors. Which one did you get? Would you try one of the other ones someday?

I started out with the #1 which is like clip-on. I wish I could find that one since we are shopping for a new car and it would help. In my van now I have the lanechanger II. I find that the one I have now works great for me. It was a complete unit that replaced the original rear view mirror in the van. The "Plus" might be better though if you have some kind of electronic rear view mirror since appears to attach to your original mirror as opposed to replacing it.

I went to a Pep-Boys auto supply to get my mirror which is a wide view one that is maybe 18inches long. Once installed it shows left and right and center perfectly without distorsions, it maybe the same as the one others have been talking about.
