Hi Bren,

Sorry for the belated response.

Quote:

How long do you think reactions come after eating something?

This is definitely different for everybody. For me, I would typically feel something 1-2 hours after accidentally jumping off the NSD wagon. Here's a post that provides you with additional perspectives regarding how different people react to starch:

Is the fish sauce and lime ok?

I've never had a problem with either. Most fish sauce contains a little sugar, as does the lime, but even with my sugar ban, I don't observe a problem with either.

My naturopath said i can only expect a 20% pain reduction when I consulted him on the diet.

I think everyone's experience will differ. One of the biggest factors that will dictate your response to the NSD is how far along the diseased has the progressed in you. The longer you've been battling it, the longer it'll take to get to a pain free status. I suspect that if there's already structural damage, it'll be even harder to get to full remission. If you haven't been battling AS for that long, I highly recommend being vigilante about your protocol - that was the best piece of advice I picked up on this site and I'm grateful I went with a uber-strict diet.

Lastly, unless your naturopath specializes in AS, take everything your naturopath says with a grain of salt. Folk remedies can be amazingly effective in the right scenarios, but it'll be good to discuss potential natural solutions with others on this forum so that you can get a better judge if it's appropriate for someone in similar shoes. Though I look at all alternative medicine practioners with one raised eye brow, if you find the right one, they can provide wonders. I'm pain free and the best I've felt since the disease started, and relied on diet and other alternatives to do so. As you put together your treatment program, you'll need to determine the limitations of each therapy and weigh the pros versus the cons. It's overwhelming at times, but this is a great site to discuss your experiences and some of the options you are considering.

I hope you continue to Kick AS!

Freddie
