If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I didn't find anything that said he already had autoimmune problems . . . it seemed to say he was healthy before (athlete) . . .

When I got my H1N1 shot I was warned about this and had to sign off that I had read all the warnings. This is also an issue with regular flu shot not just h1n1 btw however it is extremely rare.
To me it seems kind of like not getting in an airplane because 1 in whatever huge number will crash. Life is a gamble in all areas but some don't want to take any gamble at all. Informing them off the odds is a very important thing to do

Hi Bridget! I meant that we AS'ers have an immune system used to attacking us which may (at least to me) make our risk higher than the kid in the article.
Take care,
Craig

GBS most commonly occurs 4-6 weeks after an incidental viral illness. The fact that it is listed in the 'side effects' of vaccinations is because folks can report *any* symptoms after vaccination. If you happened to have had an 'insignificant viral illness' a month or so beforehand, the link may not be made in your mind. ALL negative reactions or other observations are recorded because you are on a clinical trial and this data is published. We all often have 'insignificant viral illnesses'... I wouldn't panic just yet! It is interesting to look at the side effect rates in trials for many common drugs - when they are done in a double blind trial that means that half the folks are given the placebo (sugar pill) and half the real deal. They don't know which group they're in. It is common to see the incidence rates of headaches, dry mouth, nausea, muscle twitching etc (i.e.: "whatever" symptom) being about the same for both groups - and yet they are still reported as 'possible side effects' because of the policy of Full Disclosure. It kinda funny when you think about it that from the same medication you can get folks reporting *more frequent* headaches (insert symptom of choice here...) and as many subjects reporting *decreased* headaches. Coincidence, NOT real effect from from medication, you think? There's more to it than meets the eye, and what you have to remember is that sensational stories will sell more media copies than what is the plain and simple truth... Not just my opinion, but a fact.

Hey Steve! Yeah, all medicines or procedures have risks. It would be nice if they told you about the side effects of these vaccines a little more than they do. This kid could have developed the disorder anyway but the timing raises an eyebrow.

Craig - This same side effect has been reported in Fance as well. The person who threw these side effects was very ill. Also of interest, were the comments to the story. Most interesting - as other side effects were heavily mentioned. I posted it in response to kevin's post on his H1N1 jab. Posted a couple of days ago with links to the full story. The case in France is verified by several medics as being a direct causal link to the H1N1 shot. No, the story is not reported in a sensationalist broadsheet newspaper, but in an excellent magazine, Le Point. Le point covers serious issues of the day; their research team are top notch. Molly C (France) Keeping on Keeping on Here's the link to the Le Point story: http://www.lepoint.fr/actualites-science...e/1055/0/394709H1N1 - Following H1N1 vaccination, first case of Guillain-Barre disease directly linked to H1N1 vaccine reported in France As you will read in the story you posted Craig there are other cases of G-B disease reported on as being directly linked to the H1N1 vaccine, which reports have also been written up in other media outlets. Will be interesting to check out Medical News Today - see what coverage, if any, they have.

Hi Molly! Scary stuff! I have it in my mind (right or wrong) that we would be at a higher risk for an autoimmune reaction to the shot since we have AS.

Yes, it is scary Craig. But, do believe that the vaccine as used in this French case contained adjuvenents, as now, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy and Germany are (now) advocating the sans (no) adjuvenants vaccine. So, possibly it was the additives at fault, but having covered that aspect, the vaccine reactive cases as reported in the USA do not contain the adjuvenants nor do they contain mercury...
As for AS persons being at higher risk of throwing a bad reaction to the H1N1 vaccine (or to any other vaccine, flue or otherwise) I don't know, but, for myself, I'm not touching any of the vaccines. I take precaution measures, like use of Colloidal silver (spray back of throat), up Vit-C with Zinc, boost with codliver oil capsules, use of hand wipes and steer clear of crowds.
There are homeopathic measures that one can take - which 'might' work. Am never sure about homeopathy...!
Go well, keep the buggles at bay.
