interesting article in the news!
They discuss the inflammation/bacteria connection...

As a side note, sorry for not posting more often, but I am one of those folks who the diet worked so well for... I don't have too much problems with AS anymore... so I don't come here as often as I used to. My back and hip pain level is down to the point of being more of an occassional annoyance as opposed to an everyday burden.

they try to implicate everything in making people fat. I am skinny and have been all my life.
People need to exercise more and eat less.

Er, could it be that the "people" they are talking about are only from developed countries??? Do you think it may have more to do with better economies, readily available processed calorie dense food, the 'convenience' lifestyle, and doing less physical work?

Ask a subsistence farmer in Africa why he isn't fat - no disposable income, physical jobs to do all day, and no fast food joints.

Yet another red herring to blame - eat less and *better*, and exercise more... Remember also, that they can show that you are more likely to drown in the vicinity of an ice cream shop, but don't blame the ice cream without thinking this one through!!!

that used to be my thinking as well. i was such a skinny little thing. my mother, my sister had such weight problems, they loved their snacks, had such sweet tooths. and i was smug in my diet and exercise and not putting on an ounce.

then i hit my mid 30's, the hormones changed, the insulin resistance that runs in my family becoming more and more severe. i fight really hard to not gain more than i have, but now, i am definitely heavier than i should be, and its all in my middle, where it shouldn't be. i walk every day, eat a really good diet devoid of almost all unhealthy complex carbs these days, but the lbs barely budge.

and yet, i remember in my late 20s when i got married, moved in with hubby, gained a few pounds because i was eating more, decided to lose the pounds, simply went on the no chip, no french fry diet, and lost all the weight in 2-3 months, without hardly trying. those were the days...........

so, while we'd like to think that "overweight" is the fault of the person, not eating right or exercising enough, that would be easy, to just blame it on something so simple. but i'm finding through my own experiences that unfortunately, in many cases, its not that simple.

Hello everyone

Everyone is built differently, with individual metabolisms and genetic dispositions.

It would be very strange if we were all the same!

Unless you are dangerously under or overweight you have no reason to feel bad about who you are and how you look.

There are a lot of benefits to having fat anyway.
It's there to keep you warm (skinny's always shiver!)
It's there to sustain you - reserves are important for bouts of sickness or injury (skinny's fade away!)

Your body is designed to store fat for winter and during pregnancy for example. It's not all bad!

I was always stick thin until I had children. I've gained a little weight and am much happier like this. I am certainly warmer and clothes look better on me I think. Recently, I have lost the extra weight again on the NSD - but hope to bulk up again soon. Never thought I'd ever say something like that when I was a teenager!

I understand some people have the propensity to be heavier. But people are always looking to blame something for being overweight. And they also look for magic bullets. BUt the bottom line in America is people dont exercise enough and eat way to much bad food.

Here's an interesting article that minimizes the importance of exercise.

http://www.timescolonist.com/health/Exercise+alone+doesn/2649284/story.html

I've been unable to exercise but I'm losing weight regularly due to changes in the way I eat, not what I eat. Up to almost 20 lbs so far so I actually believe this. Might not work for everyone, of course.
