If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi all
I'm getting quite a lot of pain in my knee. I've had this problem before and I was informed that a steroidal injection could be used but only as a last resort because of the risk of infection. Has anybody had a steroidal injection? Did it help? Did you have any unwanted side-effects?
Best wishes
Stephen

Hi Stephen, My son Eric has had Steroid injections in his knees before. He had no side effects, and they did help him tremendously but they hurt like hell. The poor child screamed bloody blue murder. I was surprised to see any patients still in the waiting room when we were done. Lori A dog will come when called, a cat will take a message and get back to you later.

Stephen, Yes, I have had a steroidal injection before, but it wasn't for my knee. I had one about a month ago for my iritis. It was given to me right next to my eye. The doctor gave me a deadening eye wash so it hardly hurt at all. It felt really strange after but not during the shot. I will probably have another one next week when I go back. Dosen't hardly relate to the knee but just thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in. Hope it helped. Glenn

I have had many steriod injections and excellent results. No side effects except some scar tissue at injection site after repeated sticks. Best of luck! ******** Kristin TODAY IS NOT A DRESS REHEARSAL!!

Hi Lori
I hope I'd be as brave as your son if I had to have the injection!
Take care

Stephen When I first started having problems it was with my knees... Had an old time ostepath for a doc then and he gave me some exercises for it that are basically doing circles with your foot about 20 times each direction 3 times a day... Still use it today and it has helped whenever they start... Shoulder however has had a couple steroid injections and Lori is right in that it always hurt like the dickens for 12-24 hours then seemed to work fine after that just had to get over the hump... Good luck... Mike

I have had steroidal injections in my ankles and wrists and neck . I danced for a long time , and my little tootsies have paid the price , as far as the wrist and neck , I guess my younger days as a head banger are to blame ! LOL anyway , they are painful at first because the steroid stuff is so thick . But they were worth the bit of pain they caused. Lori

Stephan : Many years ago I hobbled into the SF 49ers orthopedist with a swollen and painful knee.I use to stand up all day in a machine shop which when you throw in AS causes this for me.They spray a solvent on the injection site to numb it . Then they use a tiny needle with novacaine into the joint capsule. Then they stick in a larger needle which you wont feel and drain the fluid off the knee to send to a lab. While the bigger needle is in there they unscrew the syringe and screw on the depo-medrol steroid and inject it .The first time yielded dramatic results. I could have gone dancing in about 2 hours if I had wanted.I have had that knee done about 5 times over the last 12 years. You want a rheumatologist or orthopeadist to do it not some gp unless he is really experienced.Go for it Good Luck! Hi Stephen,
Last summer I had three steroid injections, 2 in my right wrist and 1 in my right shoulder. After the first injection I saw a lot of immediate pain and positive results for only about 3 weeks. After the second and third injections I had a new experience in pain. Giving birth to three children did not even come close to the post injection pain. After about 24 hours and a couple of darvocets there were remarkable improvements. Over the next 30 days I went from having zero ROM and no function in my right wrist to shoulder, to being almost fully functional.
It hurts like hell, but the results can be phenomenal.
Good luck, Angela

I guess I'm the odd man out here. Maybe I shouldn't tell you my horror stories... When I had the steriod injections in my knees I felt like I was walking on air the first few hours (well, after the initial excruciating injection that is...) until the anesthetic or whatever part wore off, then I was suddenly stuck on the wrong side of campus and it took me 30 minutes to walk 3 blocks to get back home. The swelling, bruising, and pain stayed with me for over 3 months. The results of the treatment were far worse than the knee symptoms I got the injections for! I've had similar experiences with my hands and jaw; that's why I wouldn't let them do them in my hips a few months ago. They thought I was being uncooperative and not complying with treatment--another sign I'm just crazy and experiencing psychosomatic pain! It looks like everyone else has had better experiences, and I hope you find the injections helpful as well! 'Erie
