Hi Donette - have you tried adding coconut oil to your diet? or fermented sauerkraut with each meal? I found enema's to be very helpful. Other things I tried, like drinking epson salts or Smooth Moves Tea were a very painful/violent experience, would not recommend them or ever do them again myself. The enema is quick and easy and no pain.

Here is a link with info:

Wow, a good post. At least i got a new information there. The statement about non starch diet and keep the diet alkaline is the inspiring one. Before this, i try to increase the intake of meat and protein without balancing it with the right amount of veggie and fruit. But then i realize when i read about the inflammation free diet plan that meat has a big inflammation factor. So i reduce it and subs it with more fruit and veggie. I got 2kg back on my body last week and feel better. Hope this can continue

About the dairy, for me i can't take dairy. I take it 2 months ago and it made worst flare again. I think that because the lactose. When Klebisella can't found found starch as their medium, they use undigested lactose. Also might be because of casein. I read that casein is one the hardest protein to digest too, and it cause bad flora in your bowel

Hi Jeanne,

I do experience the coffee enema before, and yes somehow it help. But i do have problem to clean it and keep it sterile. After i use it, i usually dilute it with hydrogen peroxide and wash the part that i can reach. But i still worry if the enema tool is clean enough to be used again later. I would love to do it again later when i buy a new pot to heat the coffee.

About the coconut oil, can we use any coconut oil or any virgin coconut oil? There is several coconut oil sold in my country. But my curiousity is whether it is safe or not. I heard that coconut oil can be toxic if it not properly made. Is there any rule like the containment percentage or the chemical list on the coconut oil?

But, I think the important thing about the diet is that is works differently for everyone - just as everyone's AS is personal to them.

This was the key sentence to what I was saying!

I went on to explain my own experience as I would never want to generalise or try to talk about someone elses AS.

I was just using myself as one example of using the diet differently to what was stated so ridgedly and vehemently by (dragonslayer of old - was it??)

I wouldn't want any one to run away with the idea that I am having a rant of my own!!! I am in total support of everyone on this website following whatever works for them. Whether it's diet, meds or a combination of the two.

I am always open to the possiblility that I may need to get stricter with the diet or cut out dariy in the future or follow the diet strictly for the rest of my life if needs be. I am meerly stating my position on this day and defending the notion of tailoring the diet to your own specific needs.

I hope I have expalined myself better this time!

Look forward to hearing when you husband's AS becomes inactive too.

Very best wishes to you too Chelsea rainbow

Hi All
It was stated somewhere in the thread that NSD should be combined with a conventional drug therapy according to AAS.
Before I went onto NSD I was on Sulphasalzine and then Mtx. Both did diddly squat. I don't have private health insurance and my rheumatologist made it clear to me that the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, in Australia) would never consider me a 'worthy' candidate for anti-TNF therapy.

So in effect there was NO efficaceous conventional drug therapy available to me. Strangely the only drug that did have a positive effect was one that the medical profession in this case DOES NOT PUSH, that is, low dose Minocycline (an antibiotic) therapy, on off-patent use of a cheap minimally toxic drug not approved for AS by the medical profession.

My only option was to adopt a NSD approach, and to regain some sort of control over my life by turning my back on the so called 'expert' medical advice.
Cheers David
