Just wondering if anyone knows if Low fat Greek yoghurt is ok on the candida diet? Not sure on this one but It would make a great snack if I could eat it.

Cheers

From what I've heard, yogurt with live cultures is helpful for infections including candida

Of course that's assuming you're not allergic to the milk, in which case it causes gut inflammation and sets you back (e.g. Alinus has that problem)

Ingredients/equipment

Also should have mentioned I got this digital thermometer with an alarm that can be set to beep at desired temp of 180F:
http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Digital-Cooking-Thermometer-Timer/dp/B00004XSC5/

(this is the less crucial gadget though, because an old-fashioned food thermometer will also do the job if you have enough patience to sit and watch it for several minutes)

One more interesting twist is that the probiotic yogurt culture is supposed to be able to make non-dairy yogurt as well, so you ought to be able to make a yogurt out of unsweetened almond milk if it turns out you're allergic to the cow dairy:

"The GI ProStartâ„¢ Yogurt Starter is available in a powdered form; each 1/8 tsp dose of the active culture will ferment 2 quarts of cow or goat milk. Almond,Cashew,Soy,Coconut as well as other alternative milks may require a little more then the 1/8 teaspoon per 2 quarts."

Hey Seb, as mentioned in your previous post about yoghurt the other day...

Unfortunately the yoghurt you buy at the supermarket is dead or very close to it. So that would include Greek Yoghurt or any pre-made store bought yoghurt. Altho they have been made with live bacteria as rightly stated on the side of the punnet, by the time you actually get to eat it the bacteria are pretty much dead.

If you want live probiotics you need to make the yoghurt yourself and eat it promptly with just a few days as the bacteria dies off very quickly.

You can do this using the EasiYo system which you can buy from the supermarket.

Do you use this for Jon? If so, how long do you ferment the yogurt? I've been using an SCD recipe with long fermentation time, and I'm wondering if that's important or not... but don't feel like experimenting with the time yet, in case it does matter

Nah, Jon doesn't tolerate yoghurt unfortunately. I make the Easiyo for myself to get the good bacteria. I leave it for about 8-12 hours as per the instructions.

The reason for the long fermentation time with the SCD recipe is to try and get rid of the most lactose possible I believe.

Yah, that's the idea -- but I still wondered if 24 hours is much better than 12, since there's no cheap way to measure lactose.
