I spent last Friday night and most of Saturday at the hospital. My right leg, from knee to ankle, was very swollen and the pain was excruciating. The doc drained some fluid and put me on doxy.This is my third day on the antibiotic and the swelling has not reduced. The worst of the pain,however,has and thank goodness for that.
Has anyone ever dealt with Lymes? Could you share your experience and also tell me what meds you took and how many mgs?

Well I don't have Lymes but I have had the knee issue and have had them drained several times and cortisone shot in them and having them swollen with fluid AND having them drained IS some of the worst pain I have been thru.
Hopefully someone with some experience will chime in but I just wanted to let you know Im sorry you had to go thru it and I hope you got some relief and continue to get better.

Jessie. Hi. Hopefully your swelling subsides soon. I'm glad the pain has disappeared though. I think it is common to be prescribed a 21 or 28 day course of oral doxycycline in instances of new tick bites. Philosophies, however, seem to diverge regarding how to treat longer standing instances of lyme disease.
There is no guarantee that the tick actually carried the lyme bacteria (Borrelia Burgdorferi), but the opposite also applies. There is also the possibility that the tick carried, and possibly transmitted other infections (co-infections). The absence of a rash really doesn't mean a lot per my understanding. I believe something like 50% of those infected never have a rash.

Thank you Lisa. I went to see the rheumy this morning and she got the preliminary test results while I was there. They were positive for Lymes. As I understand it, it is not a good thing to get for a person with a suppressed immune system. She told me not to take my Humira and extended the doxy Rx. I pray it resolves and that will be that. I appreciate your knee experiences. As if the swelling and pain isn't bad enough, that needle to drain the knee is a real killer.
