Hello,
I just started NSD yesterday. With meat and vegetables, and eggs only so far over last 2 days. Unfortunately, my back feels as bad as it has felt over the last year. (I was diagnosed A.S. last October) I was hoping to get some positive response right away. Certainly did not think I would have a negative response. Have I done something wrong? Is this normal at the begining? Hoping that NSD or even LSD can work for me. Right now, feels like a dud. Need some encouragement here to go through with this longer. Thank you . God Bless!!!

Stay strong - it is NOT an Instant Miracle Cure!

Persist and over time (days, weeks, months...) you will s-l-o-w-l-y notice a decrease in stiffness, pain etc.

You also need your body to switch over from carbohydrate metabolism to ketotic metabolism - takes at least 3-4 days and you can feel pretty cr@ppy until that happens.

This is not something to worry about .. trust me. When I go back on the NSD I feel awfull for at least a few days .. extreme fatigue, extremely bad back pain, lazyness, you name it.. I read somewhere that its because the liver gets overloaded with dead toxins and your body cant flush them all out at once.. Might be true or not, I dont know.

Good luck.

It takes me four days to start feeling OK. Through the first four days I feel terrible so I alaways make life easy for me. I snuggle up in bed a lot of the time with a nice DVD to watch. water and pain killers help too.

This suffering is so worth it. I feel so well by day four I can come off most of my medication. And the more strictly I stick to the diet from then on the better my symptoms

Love Joanne

My name is Joanne and I am about to go for tests for AS. Any advice would be much appreciated

Do the iodine test on everything you eat.
And eat only raw meat, otherwise it's possible to have some starch you don't know of.
And be patient.

For me, the pain in my SI joints subsided immediately, only to be quickly replaced with a dull ache in the thorax area of my spine.... at least I could walk and sleep, the two things that the SI stuff was preventing, so it was quite a relief. Unfortunately, the dull ache increased and increased to a stabbing feeling that lasted months and was uncontrollable. Finally, I fasted for 5 days and went on an elimination diet (adding one food in at a time). I discovered that I have a terrible reaction to cabbage and mustard and more mild reaction to broccoli, even when they are 100% starch free. These were foods that were a new addition for me after going nsd.

All this is very tricky, but will perseverance, you will figure it out.
