Hi: When I wake in about 5 or 6 hours I prepare for my trip to the operating room to get my right hip re-done. Approximately 15 years ago I had total right and left hip replacements and I worn out the socket liners. I am unsure if they will do the surgery because I am beginning to get a cold! One of the major concerns is getting the anesthesia tubes down my throat because my neck is fused and they cannot do an epidural because my spine is fused. I am as ready as I am going to be...Tom

good luck Tom. Just remind the anesthesia Doc of all your AS concerns. I was always very fused for these surgeries, Never got epidural and fared very well. My neck is very bent and it all went well. You'll do fine

Hi Tom,
When I had my back surgery done a few years ago, they chose to use fiber optic tubes down my nose in order to reach my lungs because of my neck and upper back posture. They did it that way because they were unsure about going through my mouth. The operating table was awesome because it was completely adjustable in order to protect my spine while I was unconscious, even while they positioned me to lay on my stomach while I was unconscious, something I am 100% unable to do normally. The operation was a success too.
My liners are wearing thin too, so I will be needing hip operations within a year or so. I'm sure they will make the right accommodations for you and everything will go fine. Good luck on the operation.
HLA-B27+, JRA diagnosis in 1981, re-diagnosed as AS in 1988. Also iritis, colitis, and psoriasis. NSD + low carb helps me. My health makes it hard for me to post in a timely way.

34. Some rheumys say AS stage 1-2 some others say USpA Also UC - rectocolitis. UC curently in remission since feb 2011. AS/USpA remission march-aug 2011. Flare - sept-nov 2011 (antibiotics). Remission now... Modified NSD/SCD. Cook your own ! ____________________________________________________________ Mesalazine-Salofalk 500 mg/day And the list of my medication has become verry short after some years on this diet
